Which of Your Posts Deserves More Reads? #blogging

By 31/07/2017August 5th, 2017Uncategorized

Blogging communityBlogging is the first to disappear off my radar when life gets busy. In the last six months, I have missed hundreds of posts because I needed to curtail my online time.

In the comments to this post, could you please leave the link to one of your old posts I haven’t read, and that you feel deserves more reads?

Could you tell us why?

All of us keep making new posts each week, month, year.

But this week, I’d like to take the time to read a few good posts that I shouldn’t have missed.

Do you visit back everyone who visits you and leaves a comment?

Does blogging occasionally take a backseat for you?

Would you like to link me to one of your posts I haven’t read yet, and which you wish received more interaction?

I co-host the monthly We Are the World Blogfest: I’d like to invite you to join, if you haven’t as yet, to post Bloggingthe last Friday of each month a snippet of positive news that shows our essential, beautiful humanity.

This monthly event has brought smiles on the faces of a lot of participants and their audiences, and somewhat restored their faith in humanity. Here is a great example. Click here to know more. Sign up here and add your bit of cheer to the world on the next installment of August 25th!

Great post I think you would enjoy this post “Ever Wonder How Low Income Babies Get Diapers?”

  • ccyager says:

I do try to visit back other bloggers who visit me and read at least one of their posts, leave a comment. My intent is not always fulfilled, though. Time is always the reason. I do wish readers would leave more comments at my Anatomy of Perceval blog. You’re so good about that, Damyanti, and I try to respond, even if it’s not right away. I can empathize completely with not having enough time to write as much as I used to. It’s amazing how much time a full time job consumes!

  • I enjoyed reading this post and as you can see I am way behind in reading it! I do my best to try and read and ‘like’ and comment as time allows 🙂

  • I am working on three projects and will soon be working on a fourth, in addition to reading and responding to them. I just wish some bloggers wouldn’t write so many, not to mention every day. There are just too many to read all of them.

  • boomergrl49 says:

I have not blogged much in the past year because I’ve been busy! And lazy! I’m catching up on posting, reading, and commenting now. Thanks for this post, and for visiting my blog.

  • DJ Cockburn says:

This post is a great idea. I’m off to poke through all the suggestions here. My contribution was the post that came out of my reading about an extraordinary life: James Barry rose to the top of the Victorian British army medical establishment without anyone suspecting he was actually a woman in disguise: https://cockburndj.wordpress.com/2016/01/06/inspirations-the-immaculate-deception-of-james-barry/.

    • Damyanti Biswas says:

That’s fab post to share, DJ. I love how well-thought out and detailed your posts are. We need more bloggers like you.

  • Ashwini CN says:

Thanks for this thread, I am going to catch up with a few posts myself. And thanks for visiting my blog 🙂

    • Damyanti Biswas says:

You’re welcome, Ashwini. I’m glad this post introduced you to a few other blogs.

  • macjam47 says:

Damyanti, I can relate to not having the time to visit all the blogs. I too am way behind. I hate that I’ve missed so many posts, but I do have to limit my online time or get nothing else done. I do try to visit the blog of everyone who comments.

    • Damyanti Biswas says:

Thanks, Michelle– I do feel quite hopeless when I have so many un-answered comments. But life and writing take precedence– which is why this post to make sure I read at least a few good posts.

  • Rachna says:

Yes, I do visit back and try to respond to every comment. Personally, I find it annoying when some people don’t respond to comments. Here is one post of mine that is very close to my heart. I don’t know if you have read it: http://www.rachnaparmar.com/2016/12/mothers-memories-loss.html

    • Damyanti Biswas says:

Rachna, guilty as charged– I do fail to respond to all comments for all posts– sometimes a post gets out of hand and receives a ton of comments just when life or writing needs my attention. I just read and comment on your moving tribute to your Mom– thanks for sharing it with me.

  • Adan Ramie says:

This is amazing! You’ve managed to aggregate a bunch of amazing blog posts in the comments – all from a simple request for others to share their work. You’re one of my blogging idols.

    Onto the questions…

Do you visit back everyone who visits you and leaves a comment? I don’t, but I’m making an effort to do so more often.

Does blogging occasionally take a backseat for you? Absolutely! It can take up so much time that my actual writing – the thing I do for a living – takes a backseat, and that’s no fun. I have to actively stop myself from spending all my time on blogging, social media, etc. to get manuscripts finished.

Would you like to link me to one of your posts I haven’t read yet, and which you wish received more interaction? http://adanramie.com/my-life-is-not-a-porno/ It’s less scandalous than the headline suggests!

    • Damyanti Biswas says:

Ah, Adan, flattery shall be death of me.

I’m glad you’re visiting folks back– that’s what lies at the heart of the blogging community. I blog between manuscripts, too. But right now I’m trying to build up a buffer, if I can. off to check out your post!

  • Obsessivemom says:

This is such a sweet gesture Damayanti. Yeah I do visit everyone who visits my blog, though it might not be immediately. But I do.

    • Damyanti Biswas says:

Haha not sure it is sweetness, just an acknowledgment of my struggles. I do try and visit everyone back, too. Off to your blog now.

  • I understand the need to back away from things for awhile. Welcome back and to give you a bit of a tickle, her’s a post you might enjoy. https://cowpasturechronicles.com/2017/07/12/not-the-headline-i-had-in-mind/

    • Damyanti Biswas says:

Thanks, Sheila, and sorry if I haven’t visited you as often as I’ve wanted to. Will go and visit your linked post now.

  • heidi says:

Thanks for the reminder of how important it is to keep the conversation going and to share our stories. My blog features women of courage who share profound life stories from transcending assault, disease, war… I try to respond to each as I believe that you never know who you might inspire or where it might lead. It also helps my blog to evolve. It does however take a backseat to my life. And since you offered here’s a link and I promise to visit back! https://laughingatthesky.blog/gutsy-goddess-ann

    • Damyanti Biswas says:

Thanks for sharing that link, I’ve visited and commented, Heidi. Responding to comments creates community, and that’s the part that I enjoy most about blogging.

  • Inderpreet says:

I am horrible with comments especially replying to them and visiting back. I feel so guilty that I just read and don”t leave my links so others don’t have come and comment back. I know I need to work on this big time.

    • Damyanti Biswas says:

Inderpreet, we all understand that time is in short supply. Please always leave links, because if not, people, will miss out on your excellent blog!

  • Shirley Corder says:

Hi. I’d love this post on International Writing to get more atention.I think it adds value to our global writing scheme of things. https://shirleycorder.com/share-your-world-july-31/. And yes, I try to visit back those that visit me, especially if they leave a link to a post.

    • Damyanti Biswas says:

Thanks for sharing the link, Shirley.I visit back, too, even when I have to google the blogger to do it sometimes, lol.

  • Hi, Damyantig.
Very few people visit my blog/website, but I like to reblog other blogs via aggregation or curation–mainly about the various aspects related to writing–in my quest to improve my learning of the craft. I understand this is an acceptable method of sharing blog content, but would appreciate any comments.

I have written some posts for my website, and as the main thrust of your post is to provide a link here’s something from one of the courses I took part in online. http://bluefeatherquill.com/metaphors-we-live-by-2/

I avoided any self-promotion to my published stories. Thanks for the opportunity to expand my website readership.
    Regards,
    Grumps.

    • Damyanti Biswas says:

I don’t reblog much, mostly because I’m tech challenged and my blog does funny things when I try it. Thanks for linking me to the post you’d shared, it was fascinating– I would never have thought of Metaphors in that way.

  • Christy B says:

Oh I know what you mean about missing posts, Damyanti! It’s not easy to get to read them all, but there are so many great bloggers to visit 🙂 Including you! It’s very generous of you to offer us the opportunity to share with you a post of our choosing. I select: https://whenwomeninspire.com/2017/07/22/mental-health-tips-for-women/ ~ And I hope your week is going great xx

    • Damyanti Biswas says:

That’s a lovely article– thanks! Have shared it far and wide. 🙂

  • Dan Antion says:

I do try to visit everyone who leaves a comment. I actually try to visit everyone who likes a post, but I often run out of time. Blogging takes a backseat to work and work around my house.

A post I’d like you to read is: https://nofacilities.com/2017/05/29/my-thoughts-on-memorial-day/

I think you will appreciate the message

  • Dearest Damyanti, I cannot imagine you’ve missed any of my posts worth reading! You remain, to me, one of the most generous bloggers in terms of your time and willingness to share and promote others. Please – tell me instead, which of YOUR posts haven’t received the attention they deserve? I will do my best to remedy that.

    You ask:

Do you visit back everyone who visits you and leaves a comment?
    – I think so! I try. Those are definitely the first blogs I visit. I can’t pretend I may not have missed one or two.

Does blogging occasionally take a backseat for you?
    – Occasionally? Always. It’s fun, and I love it – I mean, it’s WRITING. But it isn’t family or my profession or my only hobby. And sometimes I do get away from the PC to walk and travel and eat and… well, you get the idea.

Would you like to link me to one of your posts I haven’t read yet, and which you wish received more interaction?
    – You do this so often. I would rather do that for you. See above.

    • Damyanti Biswas says:

Thanks for the offer, Holly– and I’d add my link to the WATWB post: it has received many hits, but I want the blogfest on peace and brotherhood and positivity to go as far as it can. http://www.damyantiwrites.com/2017/03/08/announcing-we-are-the-world-blogfest-watwb/

I know you visit back, and that makes you a very kind blogger. Blogging does have to take a backseat sometimes, and that’s natural. That’s why I’m trying to create a buffer of posts for the coming months when I know I’ll need to cut down on my blogging time.

  • Glynis Jolly says:

I visit the blogs of those who have commented on my posts, although there are times when I have nothing to add to their comment section. When this happens, I, at least, give the post a ‘like’ so the owner knows I reciprocated.

My life is mundane for the most part so blogging has become as much of a habit as brushing my teeth. With this stated though, I have cut back to posting once a week so I will give more attention to my WiP. I am truly hooked on the blogosphere.

It looks like you have, at least, scanned all of my posts. Still, here is one I would like to get your feedback on. [https://ascriptedmaze.wordpress.com/2017/06/22/amwriting-the-preacher/]

    • Damyanti Biswas says:

I understand all about cutting back on blogging– I did that most of this year and some of the last– and the blog languished a bit. I do click a like or two on posts when I’m commuting, but not much other than that. But these last two weeks I’m making more of an effort at blogging, to keep in touch with friends so they know I’m around –even when I descend into my writing cave again. Off to check your post!

  • Shilpa Garg says:

Yes, I visit back everyone who leaves a comment on my blog. It may not happen immediately, but I do visit back as and when I blog next. Due to work and travel, sometimes I am not able to blog as much as I want to.

  • hilarymb says:

Hi Damyanti – you’re pretty good at visiting me … but you asked, so you’re going to get two … in some ways historically linked … one a crystal sceptre from 400 years ago, and the other the start of the City of London, William’s Charter of 950 years ago … age ties these together … they’re short (ish)!! and pretty! Both were in separate tiny exhibitions at the Guildhall – an early town hall, now the ceremonial and administrative centre of the City of London and its Corporation.

William’s Charter and his Seal: http://positiveletters.blogspot.co.uk/2017/06/the-william-charter-archive-treasure.html

Cheers and I’m sure you’ll enjoy them … Hilary

  • I visit back anyone who visits me, which is easy at the moment whilst my blog is small, but I imagine it will get harder 🙂
I’ve been a little less active on the blog this month: It is summer, after all, and we all deserve a break sometimes.
One of my favourite blog posts is a short story I wrote about a wizard who takes a train in the year 3000, but because it’s older, it has less interaction:

    https://dragonspireuk.wordpress.com/2017/04/09/sunday-scribbles-writing-prompts-week-14-trains-a-wizard-takes-a-train-trip-in-the-year-3000/

I also did a series about work experience at Penguin in publishing, but those were pretty popular 🙂

    What’s your favourite older post?

  • arlene says:

I love reading your blog posts.

  • Rajlakshmi says:

Hey… It’s ok if you have missed reading… Enjoy your time off I would say. And it is very nice of you ask for best posts 🙂
I have been very bad at replying to comments in my blog, but I make sure I visit those who have dropped a comment. I love finding new posts and blogs, so replying sometimes take a backseat.

  • Bilal Khan says:

You have never been to my blog, and I am here first time too. Still, I would like to have you read my most recent post: http://cognitivebackyard.com/2017/07/27/necessity-democracy/ and would like to know if you have something to comment although the linked post is read better if you know the context but still have a go at it.

  • upasna1987 says:

Hey Damyanti, you always supported me with your likes and I cannot forget your help during NaNoWriMo last year. I try to visit each Blog who liked, shared or commented my content. Blogging is not active over Weekends as I need some timely break. Will be happy to share my latest post- Life through the eyes of Toddler for a fun read. Thanks for these interactive posts and bringing the community together.

  • Answering your questions, I try to go and visit the blogs of those who leave comments on my posts, most of the times. Blogging does take a back seat if I am travelling home town, otherwise I stay fairly regular with my blogging schedule, which is once a week now on both my blogs. For your 3rd question, I don’t think you would have missed reading my blog posts because I do see your likes on my posts. Thank you for this gesture. Years ago, when you were the first serious blogger to visit my blog, it was the happiest day in the life of this new blogger. I can never forget that 🙂

  • Lynda Dietz says:

I was going to link a blog post, but I’m not sure if you’ve missed many of mine since I’ve noticed you tend to +1 even if you don’t comment. I do appreciate all shares as well as comments from my visitors!

I’ve been forced to toss my blogging in the back seat for a bit on occasion, the most notable being for a full year and a half when my work was beyond busy and I just couldn’t keep up. I missed it so much, though, and feel like myself again now that I’ve been back at it for over a year. I can’t keep up the twice-weekly pace I’d had before, but I’m content with my slower schedule now.

I answer every comment left on my posts, and always visit my commenters’ blogs. Even if their blog isn’t my cup of tea, I try to find something to say because what they’re blogging is important to them, and they took the time to read and comment on mine.

  • Most of the times I used to feel the urge to check on who visits me and what they think of me without worrying about visiting back. I think that had kept me within a smaller thought pool. Now that I do visit and read other blogs I feel my perspective has widened and I began understanding the true meaning of blogging.

  • Nick Wilford says:

Here’s my post suggestion, from the IWSG a couple of years back – http://nickwilford.blogspot.co.uk/2015/08/iwsg-future-of-blogging.html

Hopefully it adds something to your thoughts here. I still enjoy blogging the most even though it’s not as active as it once was.

    • Damyanti Biswas says:

Nick, I’m not as active either, barring the last month or so.

Regarding your post on the future of blogging, there is of course a bit of natural decline because of Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, but I don’t think any of them have as yet been able to replace blogging– I enjoy this interaction with strangers who have become my community, and even though we lose touch for a while (like you and I have, since I moved off Blogger) I like to think that some sort of friendship remains– that we can pick up being internet/ blog friends where we left off.

  • cath says:

    What a nice idea.
There aren’t many you’ve missed from my blog, for which, I thank you.
If you would like to see a backdated post, you might try this one from May: https://cathum.wordpress.com/2017/05/29/a-breath-of-fresh-air/

    • Damyanti Biswas says:

I shall go check it out right now, Cath. I’m relieved I’ve been a good visitor to you– I struggle sometimes, and this post is my effort to redress that.

  • Blogging has become an addiction for me in last one and half year but sometime it happens with me not much for the load but for the reason that my mind needs compete rest, that time neither i can write a single line/shayri nor i feel to read any post.

  • cleemckenzie says:

I hear you about cutting back . . . somewhere. I’ve reduced my blogging to once a week and my visiting to that as well. There are so many other things I want to do and have to do. Here’s one post suggestion. https://writegame.blogspot.com/2017/07/hero-lost-mysteries-of-death-and-life_24.html

  • Rajat malik says:

Here’s the post which i think you need to take a look at- https://thediaryofloveblog.wordpress.com/2016/10/07/feminism-a-word-to-understand/

  • doubtpuppet says:

None of my posts deserve more reads. They’re all offensively stupid.
I’d go so far as to argue some deserve less reads.
I used to try and reciprocate all the reads and likes but it became impossible for me. For that reason more than anything else I had to quit blogging 3 times. I miss it.
But no one misses my smelly posts.

  • I had to search for a recent one you hadn’t commented on! This one – http://www.alexjcavanaugh.com/2017/05/lost-hero-movies-mst3k-robots-tackle.html The Hero Lost authors list their favorite movies, I review an amazing CD, and there are a couple really funny MST3K short videos.

  • Hi Damayanti,
I’m a blogger but not a regular one. But, I have noticed that you have liked my posts . First,I would like to thank you for that. It encourages me to write more.
I would also like to congratulate you for such a nice blog.
    keep it up!

  • My most popular post – and the one I believe is most deserving of being read is – The Old West’s Most Interesting Woman: https://xuwriter.wordpress.com/2017/04/24/the-old-wests-most-interesting-woman/

    Stagecoach Mary lives on!

    • Damyanti Biswas says:

I’ve read and commented on it, Xina, thanks for sharing, and for your visit to my blog.
