Wednesday Writing: They Wrote to Me!

(THE WONDERLAND BLOGFEST IS THE POST BELOW)

Creative writing needs a variety of inspiration—–a few weeks ago I spoke about a letter-writing workshop that I had participated in which sent me on a writing spree. I then sent out a call for hand-written letters.

Some really awesome bloggers responded, and  I’ve been writing to folks all over the world, people who I do not know in real life, but who already feel like they’re friends, thanks to the interests we have in common. And the letters.

Today, I’d like to share the results of two different sets of challenges, which my penpals Stuart  and Michelle have been kind enough to put up on their blogs. I love them for doing that, because it gives me a chance to share their responses with the world.

Michelle’s Letter Response

Stuart’s Letter Response

Please visit them: I’m blown away by both.

Stuart is a flash fiction writer with a lyrical voice that I love, and who I met during the A to Z challenge. Michelle I met when she responded to my call for hand-written letters, and I look forward to reading more of her work.

I’m honored they chose to write to me and send me responses to my writing prompts! I love writing prompts because they led me to my book of short shorts: A to Z stories of Life and Death.

Have you hand-written a letter lately? Do you like writing in answer to writing prompts or challenges?

——————–
A million thanks to Rachel Morgan, who featured A to Z Stories of Life and Death on her blog. It is thanks to people like her in the community that I’m grateful I have a blog, and blog-friends!

I love writing by hand, although I doubt I'd be able to write anyone else a letter. My handwriting is terrible.

Groovy post and cool blog! Thanks for hipping me to these new books/authors:)

  • mish says:

Thank you to Damyanti for starting this "movement" … YAY !!!
And yes Guilie , it IS spreading and I'm so looking forward to discovering how it will impact my writing skills and help with the development of a natural writing voice ! And of course the added bonus of that personal one-on-one with pen-pals . It's a win-win situation all round !

  • Guilie says:

Oooooh…. So YOU're the one that started it all ЁЯЩВ I've just begun trading letters with Michelle too — how cool is that? Your movement is spreading, darling! I think it's a fantastic thing, so much more personal than email or blogging, and I look forward to having a "handwritten section" for my blog too ЁЯЩВ Thanks for creating this!

  • Thanks Damyanti. I'm still looking forward to hearing back from you. It is fun to WRITE. Thank you also for the nods. It's such a joy getting to know you.

  • Marian Allen says:

I used to love writing by hand, but I've been spoiled by the rapidity and legibility of the keyboard. I still enjoy doing some fiction and poetry by hand. It feels very luxurious.

YES, I love writing prompts! I've gotten some very satisfying work that started with prompts or exercises. I provide a prompt every day on my own blog. ЁЯЩВ
