Monday Read: Force of Habit by Marian Allen

I haven’t been reading much these days, my eyes have gone on rebellion. But I did start of with Force of Habit by Marian Allen. I’m not a science fiction fan, I find most of the worlds too dense and unfamiliar to get into–I’ve read a bit of Isaac Asimov, Iain M. Banks, a few short stories here and there, but that’s about it.

So I approached Allen’s book with some trepidation. I’m now in the 8th chapter, and am happy to report that this novel drew me in with effortless ease.

There’s a P.G. Wodehouse-like humor to the writing, and Allen introduces the world(s) with very little fanfare, organically woven into the action, which is the way I like it. The descriptions of the character are interesting and spot on, and the plot complications are  tense and hilarious at the same time. I’m off to bed with my Kindle, and Allen’s book. If you’re looking for a light-ish, absorbing read, I recommend this one!

Today is the last day for sign-ups for the Rule of Three Writers’ Blogfest, so if you’re a writer and haven’t signed up yet, I suggest you remedy that situation immediately.

Writer Sylvia Ney would chat with us at Daily (w)rite on October 6, which is this Thursday, so keep an eye out for that!
