The A to Z April Blogging Challenge 2013 has already brought me more blog friends than I’ve met in quite some time! How is everyone doing? I’m co-hosting it on Amlokiblogs, so drop me a comment there if you have something to say about the challenge itself. On this blog, I’ll be featuring (mostly) indie-published book excerpts for all of April. I love reading, and supporting author-friends, and this is a good way to do both.
Today, for D, I give you a non-fiction book: D.R.E.A.M. Catchers by Cheryl Therrien and Susan Cooper.
Elevator Pitch: “D.R.E.A.M. Catchers” is a simple and easy to use introductory guide to interpreting your dreams. If you are looking for a quick ‘go to’ resource to look up the dream you just had, and you don’t have a lot of time, this is the manual for you.
Excerpt: Each color has its own meaning. Colors play a role in clothing, plants, buildings, furniture, etc. Pay attention to the specific colors you see and their intensity, whether they’re bright or dull. Pale or dull colors indicate weakness or subtlety. Dark colors represent passion and intensity. Bright colors signify some kind of awareness. To make it easy, we will list each color, and its general meaning along with key words that are associated with each color.
Red – is highlighting something of importance or intensity to a subject or situation, or it may represent some form of danger.
The positive key words are: raw energy, force, vigor, intense passion, power, courage, impulsiveness, passion, something stimulating, exciting, exotic, full of life or vigor.
The negative key words are: danger, violence, aggression, blood, shame, rejection, sexual impulses and urges, or even anger.
Buy the book on Amazon and Nook.
So the next time you wake after a dream that you wish you could interpret, you know which book to turn to. This could be a keeper (on the bedside table)!
Do you believe in meanings and symbols behind dreams, and wish you knew what they were?
This is a very nice article.
I would love to know what my dreams mean. Very interesting post.

Thanks so much for the book recommendation. I’ll definitely check it out. Sounds like a handy resource to have on the e-reader!
It’s a handy manual. 🙂
Thank you so much for drawing attention to D.R.E.A.M. Catchers with this post. It is truly appreciate. 🙂
Dream study is quite fascinating. Some of my dreams I don’t ever want to know what they really mean…
I think we all have those dreams we don’t want to know about or remember. 🙂
I definitely believe that dreams are our brains’ way of sorting information and working things out while we sleep. And symbols are such a pervasive part of our collective storytelling that it only makes sense that our brains would use them in our dreams as well. I certainly have some weird ones, so I could probably use one of those books on my nightstand. 🙂
You make some very good points. Dreams allow you to try out different endings to the ‘story’. It’s your very own theater. 🙂
Dreams are our suppressed wishes, understanding them takes ages.
They certainly can be suppressed wishes and they can sometimes take time to understand.
Hi, found you via the A-Z 🙂 I have dream catchers in my house, but not convinced that dreams are much more than rehashing events that have already happened/on your mind. But, hey, what do I know, I believe in Angels?! Suzanne
I believe in Angels too! Sometimes rehashing events is just that.
Love those – they’re so magical:) My girls and I made a dream catcher as part of a Native American project and let me tell you – it was not easy *disclaimer – I am not crafty*
I totally understand. I am not ‘crafty’ in any way, shape, or form. 🙂 Dream catchers are great!
I was gifted a dream catcher in my teens, but have never analyzed my dreams in this way! Very interesting!
If you had the talent, you most surely still have it. 🙂
This sounds quite interesting. I have always wanted to know if there is anything behind recurrent dreams 🙂 I will just add the book to my ‘to read’ list. Thank you 🙂
There is always something behind recurrent dreams. 🙂
Oh, yeah! I love messing around with dream interpretation. I dunno how it got started, but back when I was a barista, I had several customers who would often consult with me regarding their dreams. It was such a fun little ritual to accompany their coffee in the early mornings!
Thanks for dropping by my blog the other day. 🙂
~Tui
Sounds like you had a lot of fun. 🙂
You got me curious…added to my overflowing reading list.
Curiosity is a good thing. 🙂
There are so many theories on dream interpretation that I just really am not sure what believe. Perhaps I should check out this book.
This manual helps you interpret your dreams for yourself.
Based on my dreams, I hope not.
This is a manual to assist you in interpreting your own dreams, if you choose to. 🙂
I like those dream catchers hanging in the mirrors. I don’t go in for dreams meaning anything. I sure have some weird now and then.
I understand. 🙂
Oh I get a lot of dreams and often understand what they mean. Sometimes they are weird, sometimes there’s a dreamland and I know all the direction out there! I will check out this book for sure. Thank you for sharing!
Sometimes dreams are just dreams that are fun. Sometimes they are trying to tell you something. It sounds like you already know the difference. 🙂
Enjoyed your blog

I love the idea of understanding the meaning behind your dreams ! The only recurring dream I have had is that I have flunked my Maths exam. No prices for guessing that I was scared of Maths 😛
Fear will have that effect on your dreams. 🙂
I love looking at the meaning of dreams, it’s just tricky trying to remember them and to get a restful sleep.
It can lend itself to less restful sleep. That happens to me when I know there is something important I need to understand and I focus on it too much.
Interesting book! I rarely look up what my dreams mean, preferring to analyze them myself, but if I did, this would be a great book for it.

This manual does not interpret for you, rather it helps you do the interpreting for yourself.
Interesting comments! I have just posted for today’s A-Z challenge on Dreams, a topic close to my heart, as I believe the dream world is an untapped, rich source of meaning to the dreamer who wishes to learn more about themselves. However, I believe it is very important to NOT make an immediate interpretation of your dream.
You make a very good point. Snap interpretations are not usually a good thing. It’s better to think about them for a bit.
Always loved the tales associated with dream catchers and agree with what Corrine says 🙂
Dream catchers are interesting all by themselves. 🙂
Sounds like a great book! But I just cant remember my dreams. Why does that happen? Any clue? because there are so many people who remember their dreams so vividly!
Sometimes all it takes to remember your dreams is focus your intent before you go to sleep. Practicing setting that intent over time usually helps you begin to remember.
This sounds interesting. I dream a lot and they are wide and varied. An interesting book!
Sounds like you are a very prolific dreamer as well. 🙂
I think I’d enjoy reading this book, thanks for letting us know about it.
Pauleen @ http://troppont.wordpress.com (A to Z)
The key point to remember is that it is a manual rather than a read cover to cover kind of book. 🙂
Loved the ‘elevator pitch’ at the start! Almost like a presentation 🙂 Well, I don’t have time for dreams these days with a 4 year old and 5 month old at home. But when I do, I’ll sure figure out if this book works. Thanks!
ps: D for Damayanti too… your day today!
I can certainly understand the time limitations with a 4 year old & 5 month old. 🙂
This seems to be a very interesting book.
Co-incidentally I have written on Dreamcatchers too. 🙂
Nice… 🙂
I love the notion of dream catchers – but I also believe we can be dream catchers for other people. I see that you are one for sure, D! 🙂
Sometimes you the messenger for someone else, it is true.
Thanks for posting this. @99cents and good reviews this is a steal – have downloaded onto my kindle app.
Thank you! Enjoy!
I know I’d love to read this book! I am fascinated by dream interpretations. 🙂
Dream interpretation can be very enlightening. 🙂
Some of my dreams are so vivid I absolutely believe they had/have intention, meaning, etc. Half the time I can’t figure them out but I remember every detail! Gotta pick up this book! Sounds interesting.
Vivid dreams are great! Those are the ones you really remember.
I ALWAYS have dreams, and while I can figure them out most of the time, there are times I wake up going huh? What just happened? :-))
That happens to me too. Sometimes they really get me thinking.
Thanks for the recommendation. As someone who dreams vividly, I’m always on the lookout for something like this!

This manual was written by 2 very prolific dreamers. 🙂
Looks like a great book. 🙂
We like to think it is. 🙂
This just got added to my “to read” list. Thanks for the recommendation.

Thank you! 🙂
I think dreams are quite an important part of understanding ourselves and what’s going on in our lives. I love trying to figure them out!
Sounds like a great book. 🙂
They really can be fun as well as helping us understand ourselves better.
Like the cover.
Thank you. Susan is quite the artist.
Dream Catchers can be quite beautiful, and the lore behind them enchanting. This sounds like a great book to pick up and check out!
Susan and I chose the dream catcher symbol because of its history.
Have enjoyed A to D. Looking forward to the rest. Great idea, Damyanti.
As for dreams we’ve just been told one by our sis-in-law about my brother who suddenly passed away. The dream was so weird it made us laugh and I guess, in a way, helped with the raw pain. Wonder what it means.
Cheryl and Susan, what a great idea for a book.
Dreams can be very healing. At the very least they get you talking which in itself can be very healing.
I used to have a few dream books but I haven’t seen them in years. Not sure what happen to them and it may be time to get another one. 🙂
If you are looking for a manual, this may be helpful. This is not a book you sit down and read like a novel. 🙂
I have such weird dreams, my husband too, wish I could figure them out!
Sounds like a great book!
Have fun with A to Z!
Weird dreams can certainly be interesting. The manual may help you figure them out. 🙂
My post tomorrow is on Dreams. I need this book. 🙂
It may be helpful. 🙂
Bravo for taking on the challenge. I’ll be watching for your daily blogs.
