Fractured Soul #atozchallenge

The A to Z April Blogging Challenge 2013  has reached its first weekend. If you’re participating in the challenge, what are your Sunday plans? I’m co-hosting the A to Z on Amlokiblogs, so drop me a comment there if you have something to say about the challenge itself. On this blog, I’ll be featuring mostly indie-published book excerpts for all of April. I love reading, and supporting author-friends, and this is a good way to do both.

Today, for F, I give you a YA Fantasy/ Paranormal: Fractured Soul by Rachel McClellan.  It is the second installment in the YA fantasy/paranormal series that continues to follow the main character, Llona Reese.

Elevator Pitch: Llona will do whatever it takes to protect her newfound friends and home, but the dark plot that is threatening Lucent Academy, a school that’s supposed to be a safe place for Auras, may be too powerful for even Llona to defeat.

Excerpt: I slumped against the wall and slid to the floor. I stared at the window, waiting for the inevitable night. Hours passed. I was practically willing the light from my room. I was so transfixed that I didn’t answer when May knocked on the door and called my name. And then, slowly, as the sun set, darkness crept toward me. I smiled.

The moment my room went entirely black and I heard no movement from within the school, I opened the window. The faint sound of hundreds of heartbeats rose from the forest. They seemed to be calling me. The creatures of the night.

Watch the book trailer here. YA Paranormal is a popular genre, and its fans might fall in love with the premise of this book. Will you follow Llona’s journey?

I love comments, and I always visit back. Blogging is all about being a part of a community, and communities are about communication! Tweet me up @damyantig !

That’s a powerful excerpt, Damyanti! You’ve certainly picked some fabulous books so far!

My plans for Sunday – 😀 I take part in a weekly meme every Sunday, so I’ll be posting tomorrow as well! 😀

Vidya, you’re a much more dedicated blogger than I am :)…thanks for stopping by and liking the book. I’m hoping this author gets sales like some of the others before have done.

Damyanti, it was you who, months and months ago, visited my bog and suggested that I participate in this challenge. I looked it up then, but thought that since I had plenty of time to decide, I would return to it later. Then, in the afternoon of the very last day of March, someone involved with the challenge visited my blog and I realized that it was now or never. Though April was shaping up to be the busiest month for me and I had not given any thought to my topics, I went ahead and signed up, and here I am, having completed A-F. Thank you for having been the prime mover for me.
I am enjoying your daily photograph and accompanying though and have just found this second A-to-Z blog. Wow!

All these YA series make me wish I had superpowers. How does the title play into the plot of this one? Does she get torn over potentially helping the antagonists?

And I’ll try to drop by on Sunday! I was thinking of expanding on my ‘E’ entry for that day, since my fictional piece didn’t get to cover as much of the world-building.

    • Rachel McClellan

John, the title Fractured Soul plays into it because Llona, the main character, was biten by a Vyken (the baddie) at the end of book one, Fractured Light. She now has their darkness and must learn to control it before it controls her, hence a fractured soul. Thanks for the question!
