The A to Z April Blogging Challenge 2013   is almost reaching the halfway mark. Can’t believe how fast April is speeding by. I’m co-hosting AZ on Amlokiblogs, so drop me a comment there if you have something to say about the challenge itself. On this blog, I’m featuring mostly indie-published book excerpts for all of April. I love reading, and supporting author-friends, and this is a good way to do both.

Today, for K, I give you a scifi romance: Keir by Pippa Jay, a book that promises sweet romance, some violence, and plenty of adventure.

Keir by Pippa Jay

Keir by Pippa Jay

Elevator Pitch: Outcast from his own world, Keir must accept and master his alien heritage to save the woman he loves, or face the rest of eternity alone.

Excerpt: As she raised her hands in defense, he grabbed her right arm and twisted it behind her back, pulling her against him and sending them both crashing to the ground. Pinned beneath his weight and with one arm trapped, Quin went limp. The fight was over. They lay face to face, hearts pounding in unison and panting from their efforts.

“Nice move,” she said, a smile curving her lips. “Now you’re learning.”

“Thank you.”

Keir stared down at her for a moment. With his own arm trapped beneath her, they lay locked together in a tight embrace, Quin acquiescent in his grasp. The sparring had added a warm flush to her skin. The heat and softness of her body beneath his crowded into his awareness. Even through the coarse fabric of their combat gear, he felt the rapid flutter of her heartbeat.

Readers of romance can now indulge their cravings in outer space– this sounds unusual, at least to me. Are you a scifi, or romance fan, or neither (like me) ? I’ve read the occasional scifi and also romance, but not enough of either to be considered a fan. Have you read scifi romances before? Would you consider getting this one?

I’m definitely intrigued. I’ve not read a whole lot of sci-fi romance (although I have read, separately, a lot of science fiction and a lot of romance) but I’d love to branch out more into the genre.

Also, the excerpt? Very sexy. 🙂

  • Loved Keir! Fantastic read and excited to see it on the A to Z Challenge. 😀

And thank you Dayamanti for inviting me.

A huge thank you to everyone who has stopped by and commented – I’m chuffed!

Hi Damyanti, and thank you for following my blog.

A science-fiction romance? Well, looks like another book got added to my “to be read” pile.

I’m currently working on a military science-fiction romance New Adult series.

Besides being one of the strangest crossovers in history, it will also be most commercially unmarketable book in history.

I never realized so many liked sci-fi until making blog rounds for this a-z…never been my cup of tea.

  • Fun challenge. I hadn’t heard of it before.

  • My brain cannot process the phrase “sci-fi romance” and I really can’t figure out why. I like paranormal romances because they’re usually pretty action heavy and you’d think sci-fi ones would be, too. So why the mental block? No idea. Maybe I should give it a try just to challenge my preconceived notions.

Kira, this seems to be the big issue with scifi romance. Plenty of people love the paranormal and urban fantasy variety, but somehow readers don’t seem to migrate across.

    Hi!
I wanted to first thank you for following my blog. It is nice to see a fellow writer liking my work. As far as books go, I’m not much of a scifi fan though I must say there is one book that was recommended to me and which I liked very much- Fledgling by Octavia Butler. 🙂

I know I’m not the target demo for that cover, but it’s so funny to me! “Annnnd stretch!” So he gets abs like that an alien superpowers? I pretty much guarantee he won’t be spending eternity alone, then.

  • I haven’t read too many Sci-Fis but have been known to indulge in a romance every now and then. Could be something to check out!

Hi, I’m not usually a big reader of romances, not as the main point of the story, but who doesn’t love a bit of love. The guy on the front cover of the book reminds me of Drogo from Game of Thrones.
The extract looks interesting – maybe the scifi aspect is what I need to get me into romance.

  • writerlysam says:

Oh, my! Helloooo, sexy cover *wipes drool off keyboard* I’m gonna have to check that out!

  • words4jp says:

I have never read a sci fi romance. I prefer my Jane Austin on Earth;)

  • I’m a scifi fan, for sure, and I enjoy scifi books with love stories, but I’m not sure I’ve ever bought a scifi romance novel. Interesting. 🙂 Thanks for the intro!

  • Sounds like a good ‘un – I’ve not actually heard of this book, so must give it a read. I have found for me that there has been a natural progression from reading urban fantasy to sci-fi books. Perhaps it has something to do with the amount of world building needed to pull it off?

    • pippajay says:

Interesting to hear that you’ve gone from urban fantasy to scifi. Agreed, most speculative fiction takes more world building than contemporary.

  • I’ve never really been into scifi and I think it’s just because I never tried it. I do need to branch out from my typical urban fantasy or contemporary genre that I tend to read and write. From what you post, it seems interesting and a good read. I can be a romance fan but it’s got to be more than strictly romance or else I may lose interest.

  • kristin says:

I don’t read much of either sci-fi or romance and I doubt I would find this book and read it. But, if there were more here, I would read that 🙂

  • One for the ladies.

I’ve had guys read and rate this book, but I have to admit – my publisher’s target audience is probably more likely female than male.
