Blogging on Your Phone

Do You Blog on your Phone?

I’ve been blogging for 5 years and 6 months, running Daily (w) rite and Amlokiblogs.

I’ve owned a smartphone for about 3 years now, and for almost 6 months I’ve been checking on my blogs and sometimes even responding to comments via phone.

But when it comes to blogging, I’ve stick to my laptop. I like adding pictures and links to my posts, and it all seems too much using a phone. I’d like to change this especially during the times I’m traveling, but have had little success with it so far.

How about you? Do you blog using your phone? What are the pros and cons?

  • When an idea comes to me when I’m away from my laptop, I use my phone to start a draft but because I’m a little OCD and it’s important to me that my presentation is to my liking (my blogs are typically a little long with photos and links to easily assemble on my phone) I always login in from my laptop before publishing the post.

    Hi,
I use only my phone for blogging. I have just used a computer once or twice, and that too only for some customization.

It is definitely slower than a computer due to the speed of typing, and you don’t get to see the full layout if you want things fast. Blogging from phone also restricts you from making your posts more detailed, and the small screen might cause headache.

But its really convenient. I don’t have a fixed schedule for blogging so it is very handy when I get some ideas and I don’t have to get to a computer. It is easier to upload pictures and media files, and if you are happy with limited graphics, its lightning fast.

But blogging on a computer is always better. I don’t have the resources to blog from a computer, and since I blog from a rural area in India, we don’t have fast enough internet for a computer. Its convenient to use phone for me.

  • I actually do kind of blog on my phone. I mean write drafts or ideas for a next post, and then save on WordPress app, & sometimes I add pictures from my phone. But I guess I always make sure everything is the way I want it on a computer.

  • No. It is next to impossible for me to write a post on the phone. It’s inconvenient.
i always blog using lappy only.

But sometimes, when am out and I come across a wonderful thought, I just type it in a text and save in drafts and then develop it into a proper post once I get access to my lappy.

  • I blog using my laptop only. I like to see the full layout of how things will look to my readers and worry that I’ve missed some essential design element or content if I can’t see it laid out on the big screen.

I use my laptop every time.

  • It is just too small. Maybe it’s an age thing. Dunno. Plus, I use so many resources preparing a post, I find it difficult toggling between them-all on a phone, no matter how smart it thinks it is.

  • I occasionally use my iPhone to reply to comments or approve them. But I’m not a fan of the small screen. I choose laptop whenever I can.

  • LadyI says:

I use my IPhone to respond to a comment. I respond through the email that I receive letting me know about a new comment. I also found that uploading the pictures from my phone to the blog has been easier (lately) than using a laptop. For as writing, I have my laptop for that, something about hearing the keyboard strokes makes me feel more comfortable.

  • I use my iPad…its so much easier! 🙂

I have a smart phone but I don’t blog from it. I prefer my desk top computer for that. Although my smart phone comes in handy when I’m visiting my parents in PA who don’t have internet!!!

i am yet to experience blogging over the phone !! in fact I am yet to use a smart phone .. I think I cannot make my world that smaller .. laptops are perfect 🙂

  • Hi. I agree with you , writing from a phone is always difficult. Why don’t you buy a tablet? The functionality isn’t the same as a laptop but it’s much better than the phone. More choice then my friend and much more convenient when travelling.

(the Asus Nexus 7 or 10 is a great device, inexpensive and highly rated by computing magazines and websites, plus I have one and I would recommend it)

I guess. Tho it has a bigger screen, it still has a touch keyboard and weird blogging apps. I must try blogging from an ipad to find out.

  • justmoo33 says:

    Does an iPad count?

  • I can’t blog from my pitiful outdated phone. But you betcha when I upgrade my phone, I’ll start blogging away! 😀

    • Damyanti says:

Renee, I don’t find smartphones make blogging very easy. But I guess it will get better. Or maybe I shall get smarter with my formatting.

  • Haha FFS.Lol, yep.too much trouble to compose even a post from phone.

  • TamrahJo says:

I can’t blog from my phone – I have FFS
    (Fat Finger Syndrome)
    LOL 😀

  • I mainly use the mobile app to quickly jot down thoughts that come to me on the go. However, since I have a mild case of OCD when it comes to presentation, I always login in from my laptop before publishing the post.

I don’t blog from my phone, but I do check comments, approve, respond to them. I write, edit, rewrite, go for a walk, take out the trash, sit down again, read, upload photos, etc.. Blogging for me is a process and a total body thing. The phone is instant gratification and often leads to typos and brain jangle. Good question, though. I’ve wondered what I would do if I manifested my dream of traveling and writing from the road. Probably a combination of everything available, which is also cool to contemplate.

  • Guthlac says:

I regularly blog from my iPhone and iPad. I use the wordpress/email facility which means that any posts are just like writing an email on the phone. I also find that when you use the Yahoo email app this way it puts a nice boundary around the post – not sure why but I think it looks neat.

As for uploading images this really isn’t too much of a problem apart from they always appear at the top of the post rather than within the post. I have yet found a way to create a hyperlink using either the iPhone or iPad unless I log into my Yahoo account through the web browser which can be a bit of a pain but this has to be weighed against the joy(?) of spontaneous bogging.

    • Damyanti says:

I think I’m going to use this email feature– I can then draft posts as they occur to me, and then later just format in the pics and links! Thank you for this. I don’t ever think of things like this.

  • Book Blather says:

I don’t have an iPhone, but I do use the WordPress app on my iPad all the time. It’s hard to centre images using it though.

  • darsword says:

I have a WordPress app on my tablet so I can do a bit of blogging from the tablet. But my phone is pitiful. It barely makes phone calls. So no I wouldn’t have the patience to try. My laptop is best for blogging.

  • kayuk says:

ARGH!! I would go completely blind if I tried to blog from my phone. My brother watches movies on his and I don’t see how he does it.

  • disperser says:

My blogs are typically too involved, long, and with too many links to easily assemble on my phone.

. . . or my laptop, for that matter. Usually I prep everything on my PC (and 30 inch screen). Then, the laptop is sometime used to post an entry that’s already written.

  • I don’t have the skills or right-sized thumbs to blog from my phone. Maybe if I posted more pictures taken with my phone, I might. I think there are a lot of people who do this, like you. 🙂

    • Damyanti says:

I guess I’m capable of blogging from the phone. But I guess I don’t cos I don’t want to make my blogging experience annoying.

  • lumar1298 says:

Like you, I use my mini IPad or phone to read blogs or comment, but haven’t tried to write one of my own.

    • Damyanti says:

Oh I want me an iPad mini. But it is wasteful to get one when my iPhone does almost everything the mini can do.

  • No phone, but I will visit and comment from my iPad. Never tried to create a post with it though.

  • Grace says:

I respond to comments with my phone. I type very quickly on a computer, but not so much on a touch screen. My posts tend to be somewhere around 500 words, so typing on my phone is just not happening.

    • Damyanti says:

My posts are all sizes, but I always have pictures, and they’re a bitch to format into a post on a phone.

  • Shainbird says:

Like you, I use my phone to catch up on my Reader and respond to comments, but when it comes to creating a new post, it has to be at the helm of my mac. It is like breathing in the open air. But if push comes to shove, I would not hesitate to post or compose from my phone.

  • Subtlekate says:

No, I don’t. I gave my smart phone to my son a few days ago and I have his dumb phone. I didn’t use any of the features. I like to blog with a glass of wine or a cup of tea, relaxing 🙂

  • troy P. says:

I’m like you in that I approve comments and reply to them via phone (where immediacy is respectful), but in the case of actually composing posts, space, time (and a keyboard) are required!

  • macjam47 says:

No, no, and no! I have enough trouble hitting the correct little button when I text much less write anything for anyone else to see. I don’t even like checking my email. It just seems too much trouble. I have all kinds of apps that I never use mostly for the same reasons. Now my iPad is a different story altogether.

    • Damyanti says:

I’m considering the ipad mini– the iPad is too heavy to lug around. Maybe I shall blog on the move then, but I very much doubt it.

  • shilpakgarg says:

I just blogged from phone yesterday, for the first time! While it is a boon, when you are traveling and have no access to a laptop but typing a whole post especially with a touch phone is a bit cumbersome. But it is certainly possible to blog and comment from a smart phone. I guess, with a bit of practice I should be good to go with blogging from a smart phone! 🙂

  • Arlee Bird says:

I still only have a simple flip phone. Maybe someday I’ll get something fancier, but still I doubt whether I’d do much blogging from one of those fancy phones.

  • I tried using my phone, but it’s too distracting . . . that damn Mickey keeps grinning at me. Still, I don’t have the heart to replace with a cell phone!

  • ioniamartin says:

I do, but that is usually because I am on the go a lot of the time. Boy though, there are some quirks with the mobile app, especially when trying to reply to comments.

    • Damyanti says:

Yep, i can’t reply to comments using the mobile app, either for blogger or wordpress. Have to go through the browser.
