Teaser Tuesday: A #Book I #amreading again

I read loads of books a month, and sometimes one gets lost in another. This meme allows me to re-think a book I’ve read, or have been reading on any given week.

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

• Grab your current read
• Open to a random page
• Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
• BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
• Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

Sabbath's Theater by Philip Roth

Sabbath’s Theater by Philip Roth

Here are two teaser sentences from Sabbath’s Theater by Philip Roth:

“The maneuverings necessary to hospitalize Sabbath were being finalized on the phone when he crossed the carpet to Michelle’s dresser, reached into the bottom drawer and, from beneath the lingerie, removed the manila envelopes. He stuffed both into his jacket’s big, waterproof interior pocket and, in their place, stowed his beggar’s cup, change and all.”

This book is so dense and brilliant and overwhelming, much like its protagonist, that I’m reading it in stops and starts, taking in a few pages at a time. It will probably take a few weeks to finish along with everything else I’m reading, but I don’t grudge it either my time, or my attention. Love Roth.
