Are You On #Feedly ? #socialmedia

Follow and Be Followed

Having moved to my own domain this month, I’m doing a fair amount of tweaking on my blog. I’m going to talk today about using Feedly for following blogs and commenting, but please bear with me.

One of the major problems I feel I’m going to face during the A to Z Challenge this year (Sign up if you haven’t yet, won’t you?) is that I don’t have a site on Blogspot any more, and a lot of my friends are on that platform. Ever since Google discontinued Friendconnect, it’s been hard to keep track of blogs I want to follow, and harder still to comment on them.

Feedly to keep track of blogs

Do you use Feedly?

I use Feedly now, and for those of you not logged into WordPress at the moment, you might see a Feedly subscribe button on the sidebar. Feedly is great if you want to follow blogs and comment on them. If you run a Blogger site, could you get a similar button for your blogs, so I can easily follow you? And pretty please, allow comments with Name and URL.

In the spirit of connections, all of us who comment and chat at this space could find each other on other social media as well. Some of you I already chat with on Twitter and Facebook, but others, not so much. A lot of us are on G+ too, and on Goodreads. Would like to connect with you on any and all of the following social media profiles: Facebook: Twitter: Goodreads: Google+ : Pinterest : Instagram

If you want me to follow you, please leave your details in the comments. And while everyone is putting up their social media links, we can all give each other some social media love ? Let’s strengthen a few blog friendships before we embark on April and the A to Z Challenge!

How do you straddle commenting between various platforms? Would you use Feedly for following blogs and commenting? To those interested in the “Follows”: What social media are you on? Am I already following you? If not, won’t you leave me your deets?

Please join Daily (w)rite on its Facebook Page if you’d like to be heard by this community. If you liked this post, you can have biweekly posts delivered to your inbox: click the SUBSCRIBE button in the sidebar.

I love Feedly! I also follow your blog there. I’m on Blogger – diana-writes.blogspot.com

  • shanayatales says:

I feel you. I have tried various things to keep track of the blogs I follow; I recently discovered feedly (a month back) and find that most effective, because I can categorize. But I never thought of adding a feedly button my blog. Silly me. Thanks for the reminder. 🙂

  • Oh No! Noty another thing to go and check! I have a job and find all these new platforms etc a tad annoying tbh having to add them to my social media organiser which I have not yet organised. I am going to hide under the bedclothes now whilst I drum up the courage to go and investigate feedly. Blessings (I think) Joy

I get you, Joy. I feel overwhelmed all the time, too, and it feels good to step back once in a while. Feedly is not a social medium exactly, it’s an easy way to keep track of followed blogs. I found it useful to follow Blogspot blogs: I used to run two blogs earlier, and the other one was on it. I made quite a few friends there I’d be sorry to lose, so Feedly is a good solution for me. Use whatever works for you, and happy blogging!

What a lovely warm article! Am new to blogging and just trying to find my way around it, but would love to link up! Will check out the things you suggest.

  • Rajlakshmi says:

Although I am on most of the social media platforms, I am not on Feedly yet… will try to find more about it. I too prefer the name/url option while commenting. Think I am following you on most of the platforms.

  • tj6james6 says:

As a matter of fact…I do have feedly but I am so rarely there it isn’t even on my follow me page! https://tj6james6.wordpress.com/follow-me/
I’m busy right now with blog stuff which has a time limit but I’ll try to figure out how to get my link in a little bit.

  • Never heard about Freedly eralier. Thanks for sharing info about that. Waiting to read your A to Z posts ….. Best wishes to you …..

  • I am on Feedly but don’t use as much as I should. Thanks for the reminder, Damyanti. Have a wonderful blogging month in April!

I’ve signed up for Feedly, but haven’t used it yet. 🙁

  • Suzy says:

I don’t use Feedly – will check it out. Best way for me is via email subs that way it’s in my inbox. Will skip the AtoZ this year – I’ve taken part in 3 so this is the rest year. All the best for the AtoZ.

  • markwoff says:

Yes, I’ve been using feedly for a while, and love it. For those readers uncertain, it’s great for blogs, RSS, genre organization… that sort of more personal curation thing? Anyway, it’s worth exploring.
Glad to see this blog (found via @mpax1 on twitter). Have signed up for the A-Z challenge thing too now! Cheers.

Welcome to the AZ Mark! Hope you enjoy it. And yep, what you say about Feedly is just right. What I like best is the ability to follow as long as I know the site url.

  • I had to find something new when Google ended Friendconnect to keep track of blogs I follow. Thankfully, hubby knew of a few and I ended on Inoreader which is like Feedly.

  • Will have a look

  • I’m going to look into Feedly. With my blogspot account, it is practically impossible to comment on wordpress blogs and I fear people will think I’m stuck up! I use my twitter account to comment. It’s easier but it doesn’t guarantee blog traffic.

    • Damyanti Biswas says:

Feedly doesn’t allow you to comment as far as I know. WP accounts should allow blogger comments– but if you get into glitches, tell the blogger, and they’ll sort it out for you, and you’ll make a friend :). Everyone wants to make it easier to interact. (Mostly, anyway.lol)

  • Scott G says:

Thanks for the “like” on my blog from last night. I appreciate it.

  • G.B. Miller says:

I’ve heard of Feedly, but don’t use it. I can still subscribe/follow blogs via the RSS button on my IE. When I switch to a Mac, I’ll probably hit up Feedly. Haven’t see your FB page in quite sometime, so I don’t know the FB algorithms are playing havoc with your page.

I don’t have a problem commenting on other platforms because roughly 95% of the blogs I follow are on Blogger. Tumblr is virtually impossible to comment on. I don’t believe you’re following me in the blog world and I don’t think you’re doing it anymore on FB. Which is fine. I’m not everyone’s cup of tea.

    • Damyanti Biswas says:

I’ve recently updated my site to my own domain name, so that’s played havoc on everything. I do believe I am following your blog via Feedly, but will go check to make sure. If I’ve lost you, will connect again. I do suggest you add a Feedly button to your blog–will make following for people like me on other platforms so much easier. Liked you on FB, via your blog.

  • Dan Antion says:

I’ll have to check into this. I moved my blogs from Google to WordPress because Google made it so hard for people to comment. I would get emails explaining that people had tried to comment and gave up.

    • Damyanti Biswas says:

Dan, I’m not sure Feedly will help you with commenting. The only way commenting is easy for anyone is when the blogger enables comments via Name and url. A lot of blogspot bloggers don’t do that, and same with WP bloggers. I try and ensure people can get in touch with me if they can’t comment, and I’ll do my best to sort it out for them.

      • Dan Antion says:

Ok. So it might have helped me if I had stayed on that service.

        • Damyanti Biswas says:

I feel a button on your wordpress sidebar might help those on other platforms to connect with you. You won’t see it on my sidebar if you’re logged in to WP (that’s how it’s set up) but that green button has been getting a few clicks from my blogspot friends lately.

  • hilarymb says:

Hi Damyanti – I use Feedly .. but need to add a few more things to my Blogger Blog – not good at the techie stuff … cheers Hilary

  • I saw something about Feedly when I was searching around WP this morning. Would it help me follow others better? who are on Google blogger and such?

    • Yes Deborah, I find it easier to follow those on blogger with Feedly. It is easy to install as an app on the phone as well, so I can easily visit those blogs on the go. If you go to the link in my post that tells you how to grab a Feedly button, that will let your blogspot friends easily follow you too.

  • cynthiamvoss says:

Never heard of Feedly, so nope, I’m not on it. I do have a Twitter account, but I don’t ever post on it (except for publishing my WordPress feed). It’s hard enough for me to keep up with WP and accomplish everything I want to do here. Kudos to you for being so social-media friendly!

    • I’m mostly on Twitter and FB, the rest, I’m a light user. Feedly is not a social medium as much as it is a way of following blogs. I’m on social media when taking a break or during commutes, mostly.

      • cynthiamvoss says:

Oh, I see. So Feedly helps you follow blogs across different platforms? Sounds helpful. Commuting sounds like a great time for social media, but do you ever get carried away? I go on Twitter sometimes and feel like I want to catch up on EVERYTHING that’s on there. I would probably find myself having trouble limiting it to using it only during my commutes.

        • Damyanti Biswas says:

I try to limit social media to timed breaks, otherwise it tends to take over my life. I find that it is like salt, it spices life, but too much of it would make things impossible.

I check social media at set times, and mostly stay away during work hours.

Yeah, give Feedly a spin, it really helps me. And this isn’t a sponsored post– just a share of something that worked for me 🙂

          • cynthiamvoss says:

It does tend to take over! I think this is why I don’t really use Twitter. I would get nothing else done. Good luck with the A to Z challenge! I’ll be on the road next Friday and need to get something lined up ahead of time.

  • Sha'Tara says:

Never heard of “Feedly” and I can just barely deal with WordPress, never mind Face Book (or is that Race Book) I don’t think I want to deal with any additional “social media” – I think spring is asking me to add the yard right now… 🙂

  • jazzfeathers says:

Thanks for this post. I’ve been using Feedly for a few months now, and I didn’t know I coudl get a button for it.
I have nearly all my socials in my sidebar. Need to figure out how to add the missing ones.

  • I’m not into being on more than a few social media sites at one time. I’m realistic, I wouldn’t have time to read all the posts on more than a few social media platforms.

So, I admire how you are able to keep up with everyone on all of these platforms. What do you eat for breakfast again?

    • I don’t keep up with everyone all the time, but some people some of the time do add to my life: made friends I’ll possibly never meet in real life, but who enrich my online existence just the same! Thanks for commenting. I eat glow-worms for breakfast ? , btw.

  • I’ll check it out, Damyanti. Honestly, I barely keep up with what I have now. I’d love a system that made it all easier.

  • I’m not doing the A to Z challenge in April because I’m attempting Camp Nano. But I’ll share my links. ?

  • projectwhy says:

have downloaded it and finding my way

  • JEN says:

I don’t use Feedly because I don’t know enough about it yet. I understand what you mean about blogger, though. I have an account on several social media sites, but maybe when I understand it better, I’ll use Feedly.

  • Lata Sunil says:

I have been using feedly and I love it. Adding it to my blog right away.

  • I have a blog on WordPress that I don’t often update, but I put pieces there that I like to be able to direct people to, and I use them for Open Mic readings. It’s marthaspencil.com.
I enjoyed your piece, and admire your energy and communicative spirit.

  • Feedly is what I use as well.

  • Bushka says:

Will look into this….. 😉 Hugs!
