Vijay, the Project Why Tech-Whiz #atozchallenge

For the A to Z Blogging Challenge, I’m blogging 26 days in April based on the alphabet and bringing you stories from the nonprofit Project Why.

Damyanti Biswas talks about the Nonprofit ProjectWhy In the slums of New DelhiVijay is Project Why’s tech man. He joined Project Why’s computer center in 2005 and has never left since. Vijay belongs to a poor family and lives in a slum. He worked in a company as a hardware technician for some time but the ‘company’ shut down and he lost his job. Project Why was on the lookout for a second teacher for its newly-opened and increasingly popular computer center and Vijay proved a godsend.

Damyanti Biswas talks about the Nonprofit ProjectWhy In the slums of New DelhiHis knowledge of hardware made it possible for Project Why to start hardware classes and teach computer maintenance and repair: a skill that ensures access to jobs. Vijay is extremely patient, an asset to anyone teaching technology, and hence a loved teacher. Over and above ‘teaching’, Vijay ensures the maintenance of all the computers in Project Why’s different centers.

Vijay is always willing and hence has been a huge help in many instances. He is the handyman as well as the one to supervise any repair or construction work as well! He’s often seen working beyond office hours. It is a privilege to have Vijay as part of the Project Why team. I have worked with him a few times, and he’s always been a cheerful, patient and very helpful tech-whiz to collaborate with.

Do you have a tech-whiz in your family, community, or are you one youself? Would you like to volunteer with Project Why? What would you say to Vijay?

Good for Vijay. When someone needs tech support they are probably already stressed and need someone like Vijay to be patient.

“Vijay is extremely patient” – wow – that is so important. I sometimes have to provide tech-support in our company. I am not patient.

  • Vijay, if you’re reading this, you are da bomb! (That’s a complimentary phrase where I’m from that means you’re a fantastic dude!) I’m gonna start calling cool people “Vijay” if that’s okay by you.

  • The tech whiz in our house is my teenager! Whiz may be a stretch, but considering she’s light years ahead of my tech skills, we shall leave it as that LOL

Vijay sounds like a true asset to the organization. Patience and a smile makes for good energy. The universe brought him to Project Why so he could lend his expertise… Sounds like they are very lucky to have him.

Hurray for Vijay. He seems to have arrived at the right time and in the right place. Congratulations to the project and to him. Now he can pass along some of his knowledge and help others become self-sufficient in this techie world.

    • Vijay is able to teach his classes, keep the office’s technology in working order, and have a smile on his face all day long. We are so grateful to him!

  • I could use a Vijay in my small home business.
