This blog has been around for ten years, and as on each year, it’s time for the customary anniversary post.
I can’t believe it–feels like I made the first post yesterday. But I made the first post in 2008, and since then, I’ve stayed in Kuala lumpur and back again in Singapore. I’ve also made a large number of online friends.
An online friendship is different from a real-life one, but in some cases, it can be equally strong. I realized just how strong when two of the bloggers I cherished, passed on. The grieving was real.
It has made me hold all of you a little bit closer to my heart, to try and respond to as many comments as I can, and visit your blogs as often as possible (a mammoth task I fail at, quite often).
I’ve learned to forgive myself a little, because I’ve come to accept I’m a puny thing. During a given day, my writing and family take up most of my time. Add reading to that, and blogging slips down the list.
But I can’t ever truly let go, and even when on an offline break, like last December, I sneaked a look at a few posts once or twice a week. I make no excuses: blogging and blog-friends are an addiction–one that has enriched my life in more ways than I can count. Some of you have helped me with my writing, others with your encouraging comments at low ebbs of my life. You’ve helped me arrange blog events, and some of you I’ve met in real life.
My blog has gone on for ten years thanks to all of you, because you stop by with your likes and comments, because you share the posts on social media.
For my tenth blog anniversary, I’d love to hear a line or two from you.
Anything at all about how we met, or what you like or dislike about this space, how long you yourself have been blogging, or which posts of yours you think I should read.
From the comments on this post, I’ll choose 10 names at random from those who have commented on my blog before. I’ll give away 10 books by various authors: established, and new. Physical copies, anywhere in the world, as long as you’re willing to provide me with an address. This isn’t a ‘marketing’ sort of giveaway with strings attached– just a celebration of reading, of how much I appreciate your presence on my blog, and of how wonderful this site has been for me.
So, how long have you been blogging? What do you like/ dislike about this blog? When do you think we first met online? What do you usually do for your blog anniversary? What advice would you like to share with me for my blogging and writing journey ahead?
