The First Writing Prompt of The Rule of Three

Just as promised yesterday, today I share the First Prompt for the Rule of Three Fiction blogfest.

To summarize what the blogfest will contain:

1. 1 shared world setting
2. 3 characters of the writer’s choice
3. Escalating tension in three weekly installments of one story, and the resolution or finale part in the fourth week.
4. Any genre or time period.

The challenge:

Each week’s installment (to be posted between Wednesday and Thursday) would be based on a prompt we give the week before.
Each of the first three weeks the focus will be on a different character.
Word count 500, which can exceed to 600, but not more.

You have 34 days from now to dream up the first part of the story which will be based on one or more of the following prompts:

  • There is an argument
  • There is fear of an impending misfortune
  • There is a humorous circumstance
  • Someone might fall in love

Please state your choice of prompt when writing the story.

Help spread the word by tweeting this blogfest at #REN3 on twitter, or share on Facebook or Google + with your writer friends.

Fellow short story campaigners, how about making this our #Writecampaign challenge?

Let the plotting for Rule of Three begin! The first installment of the story to be up between October 5 and October 6.

I couldn't figure out where to leave my comment after signing up on the Linky tool, so I guess this will do!! I'm excited to have a month of "something else" to blog! I'll be using three characters from my WIP, Pierre, Sandrine and ChloΓ© – getting out and about will be good exercise for them! Renaissance will be set, as my WIP, in a fantasy France which resembles modern day world. Anywho, looking forward to reading other folks ideas too!

  • This sounds so exciting but I'm entering a really busy time with my writing so won't be able to commit this year… but if you run it again I hope I'll be able to give it a whirl. Good luck. It's a great idea.

  • It does sound difficult but I'm going to give it a try! πŸ˜€

If you do this again at at later time, I'd like to join. I'm going to join your site to keep up with how it goes this time around. I love doing flash pieces.

I'm in your writers platform group, by the way, which is another reason I'm holding off on the Rule of Three. Nice meeting you.

Thanks, D.J, will go have a look.

This looks complicated, but is actually not tough if you plan ahead :)..the prompts would be broad enough that you don't need to sweat too hard each week…also open to all genres and styles, so it could be anything from literary to horror to science fiction to fantasy or romance, and everything in between.

Oooh this challenge sounds interesting but I'm worried about fitting in the extra writing. I'll play aorund with it this weekend when I have some extra time. I popped by to let you know that my blog post about my giveaway is up πŸ™‚
