I haven’t been reading much these days, my eyes have gone on rebellion. But I did start of with Force of Habit by Marian Allen. I’m not a science fiction fan, I find most of the worlds too dense and unfamiliar to get into–I’ve read a bit of Isaac Asimov, Iain M. Banks, a few short stories here and there, but that’s about it.
So I approached Allen’s book with some trepidation. I’m now in the 8th chapter, and am happy to report that this novel drew me in with effortless ease.
There’s a P.G. Wodehouse-like humor to the writing, and Allen introduces the world(s) with very little fanfare, organically woven into the action, which is the way I like it. The descriptions of the character are interesting and spot on, and the plot complications are tense and hilarious at the same time. I’m off to bed with my Kindle, and Allen’s book. If you’re looking for a light-ish, absorbing read, I recommend this one!

Today is the last day for sign-ups for the Rule of Three Writers’ Blogfest, so if you’re a writer and haven’t signed up yet, I suggest you remedy that situation immediately.
Writer Sylvia Ney would chat with us at Daily (w)rite on October 6, which is this Thursday, so keep an eye out for that!
Sounds good. I'll add Force of Habit to my Kindle TBR list.
I like the fact that The Rule of Three ended up with 69 participants.
Almost feels poetic.
I love me some SF! Adding to my TBR. 🙂
Wow! Thanks for the recommendation! Your assessment was just what I was hoping to accomplish: tension balanced with humor easy immersion into the world, appeal to sf regulars AND others.
Thank you SO MUCH! And I do hope the reading experience is equally pleasant for other readers. 🙂

Hmmm…not a huge sci-fi fan either, but I'll have to check this one out.
Thanks for the recommendation!
Cool beans, all around 🙂

I have been on a reading frenzy lately. Glad to read your review and add this to my list!
I'll have to put this one on my list. I do enjoy science fiction. 😀 Obviously. lol
I hope you like the book. Let me know how it goes.
I love a good sci fi if the author does just as you described-introduces the world with little fanfare, organically woven into the action. Sounds like a good read.
That sounds like a very good book. More of the books I've been reading lately have been fantasy and paranormal. So finding a great sci-fi is awesome.
