Alex J Cavanaugh , our Ninja Captain, is hosting the First loves Blogfest:
Post your first loves – first movie, first song/band, first book, and first person. Four loves, one blogfest!
First movie:
Mad monkey Kung fu– My father took me to watch this one when I was five years old, and, I spent most of it trying to hide under the seat. Maybe I should watch it again, to see if it brings back any memories?
First Song: As a kid I remember Phil Collins playing at our place. Can’t remember the songs, but then, I’ve never been very musical.
First Book: It was a comic, actually, meant for kids far more grown up than me. I made my grandma read it to me so many times, I learned the dialogs by heart, and my parents (from what I remember from our family stories) amused themselves (and others) by making two-year-old me ‘read’ aloud the writing…and apparently I did a flawless job despite not knowing the alphabet.
First Person: I had my first crush when I was fourteen, I think. Just one of those things–nothing special. But if we talk about love as a universal emotion, the first person I adored was my grandma, who passed on when I was six. I wish I had seen more of her– she was a self-taught poet, a whimsical cook given to experiments in the kitchen, and a spiritual seeker whose heights I aspire to today.
So that’s the saga of my first loves. I’ll go blog visiting via the linky list now…
Mad Monkey Kung fu? How in the world did I ever miss that? It must me a real classic.

Tossing It Out
I also have a special relationship with my one grandmother. But I'm fortunate enough to still have her. She lives with my family.
She was the one who first taught me to write. 🙂
Wonderful stories with your first loves. Your grandmothers sounds like a wonderful person. My brother was big into Genesis. So there was a lot of Phil Collins in our house, too.
A little late visiting 1st loves! I never heard of your movie choice. Your grandma sounds like a wonderful woman, glad you have fond memories of her!

Phil Collins, thank you for mentioning, just threw me back a couple of years!

What a lovely list of firsts. My family laughs at me about having no childhood memories, so I'd have a tough time with this one. 🙂
My grandmother was special to me too. Nothing quite like a grandmother's love and attention.
It sounds like your grandmother was a wonderful person.
A great selection of firsts!
Phil Collins – what an artist!
With the way you describe your grandmother, she sounds like someone worth hanging around quite a bit jsut to learn the many nuggets of wisdom she'd share.
Aw, what a nice pick for your first love. 🙂
I love your description of your grandmother!
You had me at Mad Monkey Kung-Fu!
We all love something…right!

Mad Monkey Kung Fu is an excellent, highly inappropriate but brilliant first movie for a five year old.

Phil Collins is awesome. Can you believe he started as a drummer?
awww, your post is awesome, too!
Grandma's are awesome, and I'm sorry that you didn't get many years with yours. I don't know what I'd do without mine.
I can totally relate to having that bond with your grandma. I miss mine too and she practically raised me.

Phil Collins – what a great first!
I'd name some Phil Collins songs to help jog your memory, but that might be a whole in of itself!
Thanks for participating in my blogfest.
My son was similar when he was very little, knowing a story by heart! It is very funny to watch, especially if the book is held upside down 🙂
What a cool grandma to read comics to you!
Lovely First's posting I enjoyed reading especially mentioning your grandma 🙂
do you have any of your grandmother's poetry–and if so, would you be able to share them 🙂
