Teaser Tuesday– a Voice I Loved

By 18/06/2013blog, books

I’ve been reading a lot these past few weeks (even more than usual, and here’s why) so perhaps I should start seriously following some bookish memes in order to share some of them with you.

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

• Grab your current read
• Open to a random page
• Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
• BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
• Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn

Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn

Here are two teaser sentences from Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn:

“I feel myself trying to be charming, and then I realize I’m obviously trying to be charming, and then I try to be even more charming to make up for the fake charm, and then I’ve basically turned into Liza Minnelli: I’m dancing in tights and sequins, begging you to love me. There’s a bowler and jazz hands and lots of teeth.”

I didn’t love the book overmuch, but when it comes to voices, this book can teach you a thing or two if you’re a writer. As a reader, I found it kept me hooked, but didn’t creep me out cos of its predictability. Or maybe I’m just too jaded a reader. Pick it up, if you like, and come to your own conclusions.
