Teaser Tuesday: A Guilty Pleasure #Book

This Tuesday, it is time for the teaser again, and this time the book is one of my guilty pleasures, Shadow and Bone, by Leigh Bardugo. Guilty pleasure because it is a fantasy, totally unrelated to the TBR list for my current project.

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

• Grab your current read
• Open to a random page
• Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
• BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
• Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo

Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo

Here are two teaser sentences from Shadow and Bone:

“I passed the meal in silence, listening to Alexei and the others exchange camp gossip and jittery talk about tomorrow’s crossing. Alexei insisted that I retell the story of the Grisha coaches, and it was met by the usual mix of fascination and fear that greeted any mention of the Darkling.”

Blurb: “The Shadow Fold, a swathe of impenetrable darkness, crawling with monsters that feast on human flesh, is slowly destroying the once-great nation of Ravka.

Alina, a pale, lonely orphan, discovers a unique power that thrusts her into the lavish world of the kingdom’s magical elite—the Grisha. Could she be the key to unraveling the dark fabric of the Shadow Fold and setting Ravka free?”

I loved the world, and the characters. It sucked me right in, and I found myself rooting for the protagonist from early on, because she’s the underdog. Very well written, and it was excellent entertainment for a musty Singapore evening.
