#amreading #Fantasy by Jemima Pett

I featured Jemima Pett on my blog in April during the A to Z Challenge, and she was happy with the results, which is why we’re back together again, featuring another of her books. The book in question is The Traveler in Black and White, an MG/YA fantasy, and it is the feature this Wednesday.

Elevator Pitch: In the fourth book, a prequel to the Princelings series, Lord Mariusz of Hattan
narrates, in his own Chandler-esque style, how he came to explore the
world on the end of the time tunnel, his encounters with murder, mayhem and madams, and why he adopted the pseudonym
Hugo in the first place.

Teaser Excerpt: Montgomery and I chatted over our meal, and
I had the chance to quiz him about the area. The castle was set apart from the
village, up on some crags overlooking a broad river valley, and like Vexstein
there were mountains behind. “Dark and brooding, with moorland where a man can
get lost and never find his way back again” was his description. Sounded like
he’d been reading too many gothic novels, but he’d seemed quite sensible
otherwise, so I decided to leave him be. I said I was planning to visit the
next day, and he said he was too, so we agreed to go up there together around
ten.
“Are you carrying any equipment?” he asked
me in a cautious way.
“You mean my sample box?” I asked,
wondering if he meant what I thought he meant.
“Er, no,” he said, “um, personal protection
equipment.”
“Is it the kinda place I need it?” I asked,
understanding that he meant exactly what I thought he meant.
He made a wry smile and nodded. “Maybe, if
you’re that way inclined.”
I looked at him and asked directly if he
knew any suppliers in town. He got up and I followed.
