Teaser Tuesday: A #Book about #Women

This Tuesday, it is time for the teaser again, and this time the book is something I picked up at a secondhand book sale long ago, The Sunday Tertulia.

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

• Grab your current read
• Open to a random page
• Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
• BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
• Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

Latina Women advice

The Sunday Tertulia

Here are two teaser sentences from The Sunday Tertulia:

After five years of living in Manhattan I realize there is nothing more beautiful than an afternoon in mid-September, when the sky is the color of lavender and the light behind the clouds is opalescent, heavenly. Everything in the city comes back to life in autumn, and that includes the tertulias in Isabela’s apartment.”

Blurb: “Claire is a young, struggling New Yorker whose understanding of life is enriched after a group of older and wiser Latina women bring her into a close-knit circle: their Upper West Side tertulia. Once a month, they come together for a Sunday afternoon of revelry, at which delicious food and strong opinions are served up in equal measure.Through their recollections and counsel, Claire comes to know the colorful, exotic, and sometimes contradictory attitudes that through a prism more poetic and worldly. Humorous and bittersweet, The Sunday Tertulia brings to life cherished Latin traditions and celebrates women’s wisdom and spirituality.”

I found myself smiling at some of the wisdom and the psychoanalysis, and the different ways femininity expresses itself in different parts of the world. What I loved, though, is the easy group camaraderie and found myself longing to be at a table with such a group, a part of it, sharing the recipes and the jokes.
