This Tuesday, it is time for the teaser again, and this time the book is something I picked up at a secondhand book sale long ago, After Life.
Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
• Grab your current read
• Open to a random page
• Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
• BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
• Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!
Here are two teaser sentences from
After Life:
“She realized she could know some things. My mother began in honesty, and ended in fraud; I began in fraud, and ended in something at least close to truthfulness.“
Blurb: ““First, I had to get his body into the boat”. This ominous opening begins a tale of secrets and lies, visions, and hovering spirits. At its center is Naomi Ash, a young woman who has come of age on the frigid banks of a western New York lake community called Train Line. Here she grows up and falls in love in a town where mediums, spiritualists, and professional clairvoyants hold “psychic fairs” to help make ends meet. When the skeleton of Peter, Naomi’s ex-lover, surfaces, the mystery of his death must be uncovered. In the process, Naomi, now a clairvoyant herself, unveils a world where the secrets of the dead cannot stay buried and where her past must confront her precarious present.“
This one is creepy good..I’m happy I picked it up on a whim.
See Deuteronomy 18: 9-13 re: spirit mediums and the like.
Damyanti, I think this “teaser” idea is cool, seriously cool. Have you asked Anne Lamott what she thinks of your idea? Not that it matters what she thinks but you mentioned you are a Lamott fan. I have a feeling that Anne Lamott would like your idea. The book (After Life) sounds like a great read. I need to seek it out … That opening line sounds wild. Okay. Keep at it, O Writer …. Peace, T
Great opening line in this one. I liked also yours about writing first thing in the morning. That is when I do my writing. I want to thank you for liking “Telephone Killer – 9” on papermudandme.wordpress.com. I will be following you. – Aloha – pjs.
Creepy good…what a nice teaser.
I can see why you picked this one up! 🙂 It sounds really good. Glad you’re enjoying it so far!
Such a wonderful idea! Here is mine:
The Great Gatsby (I swear I’m the only one who hasn’t read this book)
“The fact that gossip had published the banns was one of the reasons I had come East. You can’t stop going with an old friend on account of rumors, and on the other hand I had no intention of being rumored into marriage”.
Pretty good sentence I think!

Liked this concept. For starters, I am putting the first teaser here itself:
“Nothing is more deadly than a deserted, waiting street.” ~ To kill a mockingbird 🙂
I like your pick. Think I’ll put it on my end of the summer reading list. Thanks!
A spooky read. Nice teaser.
Sounds like an interesting read! Thanks for sharing:)

Teaser Tuesdays is weekly bookish meme. I have decided to participate for the same reason I review books and read must read / top X # book lists – exposure to new genres and books. These books do not have to be just released. In fact in many ways I prefer the older titles.
• Grab your current read.
• Open to a random page.
• Share two ‘teaser’ sentences from somewhere on that page.
• Take care not to include spoilers.
• Share the title and other so that other participants can add to their TBR lists.
In War Times by Kathleen Ann Goonan
“In short, if human consciousness was the time-sensitive entity she believed it was, this device could be called a time machine – although that would be a clumsy, inexact way of describing it. It would meld the latest discoveries in physics with the latest discoveries about biology – a connection that very few scientists, with the exclusion of James Watson, ventured to consider.”
One of those topics everyone wants to know about and is afraid to ask.
Interesting teaser and blurb. Thanks for sharing…and enjoy. Here’s MY TUESDAY MEMES POST
Yes, the “blurb” is intriguing enough that I would like to pick up this book. Thanks — love these Tuesday Teasers.
Interesting, looks like a good read 🙂
This sounds like an interesting read.
