Insecure Writer's Support Group

Insecure Writers!

I had dropped out of this group, because I could never remember to post on the right dates, and was on hiatus for a while– but so many of my blog-friends are on it, I have always read the IWSG posts.

The premise of the group is simple– we writers can be an insecure bunch, we need all the support we can get and who best to support us than our fellow-writers?

The avowed purpose is:

To share and encourage. Writers can express doubts and concerns without fear of appearing foolish or weak. Those who have been through the fire can offer assistance and guidance. It’s a safe haven for insecure writers of all kinds!

I’ve signed on again, and have scheduled drafts for the rest of 2015, so I don’t forget. If you’re a writer, I strongly encourage you to join this group, as well as their Facebook page.

You’ll find all kinds of advice ( they even have a free book of excellent advice), commiseration, encouragement, and you’ll make some excellent friends! Alex, the founder of this group, has been a good blogging friend for years– and being the Ninja Cap’n, he knows a ton about writing, blogging, bloggers who write, and writers who blog.

————————-

Not a writer, but know someone who is? Are they insecure about their writing? If you’re a writer, do you feel the need for a safe place to vent, recuperate, seek advice? Are you part of theΒ  Insecure Writers’ Support Group? If yes, what has been your best experience about this group and why would you recommend it? (I really would like to hear from those whom Insecure Writers’ Support Group has helped over the years!

In the spirit of bonding with writers, here’s another event you could take part in: involves posting an excerpt from your work, or from a book you’ve read: the Spectacular Settings Challenge.

If you haven’t yet joined the Damyanti at Daily write Facebook page, please do. Hope to see you there to join in the fun!

Though I wouldnt call myself an insecure writer, I do tend to shy away from publicising my works hehe. In regard to that, I feel this is a very good initiative for many bloggers and budding writers. Keep it up! And thanks for visiting my blog. I am glad you liked my story. πŸ™‚

Welcome back Damyanti. I sometimes get caught on the first Wed of month, but I think it happens to many others also. It’s a great group and the facebook page augments this nicely. πŸ™‚

  • Thank you for telling me about this group. I would like to join but unfortunately I publish my posts on Sunday nights.

    • Damyanti says:

Yes, I can see how that would affect things– maybe you could schedule a post to go up on Wednesdays once a month?

  • John says:

I’ll have to look towards one of these meetings. I am ever so insecure!

  • violafury says:

Yay!! I’m so glad you’re back! I got all kinds of silly on fb! I guess this stresses the importance of having one’s friends around you, when we’re attempting something that at times seem akin to brain surgery, and I feel as if I have the tools equivalent to a jack-hammer and a butter knife, figuratively speaking! I’m thrilled you’re back, so happy, that I entered my own ravings on #IWSG twice, and Alex was kind enough to kill one of them. πŸ˜€ Thank you, Damyanti! Mary

Reblogged this on Anatomy of Perceval and commented:
Ah, yes, writers exude insecurity and flood the world with their self-doubts. At least that’s the stereotypical version of a writer. We can be notorious, though, for insecurity and self-doubts among our close friends and fellow writers, stereotype or no. I think a writer who isn’t must be some kind of psychopath. I’m going through a bit of a rough patch of insecurity and self-doubt right now — of course when I have the most writing to do — and was reminded again by Damyanti over at Daily (W)rite that there’s actually a blog of writers that a solitary writer like me can go to for support and encouragement. I’m reblogging her post below.

I need to visit the Insecure Writers Support Group on a more regular basis. Thanks for the reminder, Damyanti. Reblogging at Anatomy of Perceval….. Cinda

First I heard about this group, but not the first time I heard about writers and the dreaded insecurity. Insecurity is tough and can be paralyzing.

  • Kevin says:

Shouldn’t it be called the Insecure WRITERS [no possessive apostrophe] Support Group? As a copy editor and a writer (poet), that apostrophe gives me pauseβ€”unless only one of the writers in the group is insecure… πŸ˜‰

  • ☺

  • Happy Friday to you by Rinaldo ☺ .

  • Pat Amsden says:

Is there a writer who doesn’t feel insecure at least sometimes? And is their work worth reading? Great post Mimi

  • doreenb8 says:

So happy to see you back! I agree I love this group and all of the support, inspiration and love it provides!

  • WriterlySam says:

Yay! We’re both back!! I hope to set aside more time for our blogging buddies–really missed their banter:) See you in the SPECTACULAR SETTINGS!!

I am guilty of forgetting to post, too.

  • Reblogged this on Books and More.

  • Not really, I write just for the sheer pleasure of it. It’s a recreation for me, not a psychological tool. πŸ™‚

  • This is the only meme-sort of blog writing event I participate in. I really enjoy the honesty most writers share about their struggles on our first Wednesdays.

  • Diane Burton says:

This is a great group. I love meeting new people. Each month I feel like I’m meeting up with old friends and making new ones. It’s terrific!

    Best wishes,

    Hi,
I’ve been a part of the group since the A to Z Blog Challenge ended and I don’t regret it. I enjoy the opportunity to practice my craft while I talk about problems I’m having with writing, and I have found out through this group that I am not alone with my ups and downs in writing and that has caused me to relax.
    Shalom,
    Pat Garcia

It’s a great group, isn’t it? I’ve learned so much through it!

  • This group is why I stayed with blogging. It made all the difference. Learned most everything I know about the blogosphere from Alex and the IWSG. Introduced by another author, and I haven’t looked back. It’s amazing for the support, feedback, and ask any question, someone has the answer!

  • Birgit says:

I am part of this and I don’t think of myself as a writer but my gosh it is so helpful to people. It gives people an outlet to vent or talk about their fears. People can encourage others and offer helpful hints, ideas etc… It’s a great place for networking. One feels one is not alone. It truly is uplifting. There is so much more, but that is a few reasons. Glad to see you back

  • I’d totally join, but I’m a super secure writer. Super duper secure. A little too secure.

    Okay, fine, I’ll join. ; )

  • Tricia says:

    I’m also a recent re-join. It’s such a helpful group.

  • Toi Thomas says:

What a great intro to this group. If I wasn’t already on board, I’d jump on. Thanks for the reminder about the setting challenge- need to work on that. As for this lovely group, it helps in so many ways. I’ve made so many connections, not all good friends but many are, that have been helpful with knowledge, skills, and encouragement. One of the best decisions I ever made.

  • Ok, question: I joined the group on Facebook. To post with the group, do I have to create a new blog with them? Or can I just link my wordpress blog to the Facebook timeline?

  • Welcome back! It’s not the same without you. πŸ˜‰

  • Arlee Bird says:

I schedule my #IWSG posts in advance so I don’t forget.

  • Thanks for the recommendation. Signed up today!

  • The IWSG is an amazing group.
I doubt you will find a more caring and supportive online group.
    Happy IWSG Day, Damyanti! πŸ˜€

  • The group sounds wonderful, but I’m at work right now so I can’t visit the facebook page very well! I may have a look later, though, they sound like a lovely bunch of people! πŸ™‚

  • Lidy says:

I’ve only joined the group earlier this year and I’m glad I did too. To remember the posts I’ve set reminders on my Google calendar for the entire year. I easily forget things but thanks to Google, I haven’t missed a post.

  • Archana Kapoor says:

Very interesting group… and I agree, we do need all the support that we can garner…

  • I was taken off the list awhile back because I also could not remember to post! I now make a draft for the next month’s post the day I post the current months post. It really is a great community. I did the A to Z blog thing a few years and met a bunch of bloggers through that. My needs have changed so I don’t do that hop any more, but this monthly one is great.

  • That sounds interesting! Will try to join πŸ™‚

  • I enjoyed reading this post today. I am not a writer. I am an editor and my love is to help writers after their works are completed to polish it and get it ready for their publishers. I have met and befriended many writers with talents that soar through the ceiling! They are, however, insecure, as you have stated. So, I am happy to read these posts. There is an online radio program entitled “The Write Stuff” hosted by Parker J. Cole. It is for writers and authors. She interviews many people with different ideas and books and often provides tips to writers. It would be worth listening in from time to time. Hope that is alright to say.

Writers are the most brilliant people. They have the ability to make their readers see what they are conveying by printing words on paper. Great post.

    • Damyanti says:

Of course it is ok to say– I’d love to listen in. Thanks for dropping by and taking the time to comment.

  • Glad you joined us again! Thanks for promoting the group. It still amazes me how much it has grown.

    • Damyanti says:

Thanks for keeping the group going, Alex, and sorry I dropped out. Life and writing happened, but am back now, hopefully for good.

  • I agree, IWSG is a great place for writers to gather. I love the community of writers, the support, the laughs, the reverie. Happy IWSG, Damyanti!

  • johncoyote says:

I believe we need support. I use the writers cafe. I believe networking and knowing someone with same dreams can help.
