Blogging break

Blogging breakWhen life intervenes, my blog suffers, because blogging is a passion, but it is also a distraction.

For the last few weeks I’ve had personal challenges, as well as a stint in the revision trenches. But more than that, I think it was a period of gathering into myself, of unplugging almost totally from blogging and social media, and also cutting off as much of offline interaction as practically possible. I went days without talking to anyone other than my characters: needed to be in my own head-space for a bit.

Now that I’m out of my hermit mode, I realize that I’ve missed a ton of posts and publication notices from all of you.

By this weekend, I’d like to catch up on what I’ve missed, whether it is a post or a story, a poem, an article, a novel. So I’m adding a Linky list, open till Monday the 20th November, and inviting you all to add links. If you’d be so kind, leave a link to one of your posts from the past month that I’ve missed or any publication news that I can congratulate you on. I’ll add a link to a published piece as well, to kick things off!

I’ll delete spam and keep the list tidy, so if you want to browse through the list, read and encourage others, you’re most welcome. The link will remain up, till further notice.

In the linky, please do the following:

  1. Link to the piece/ novel you want read, and not to your blog. I’ll delete links that lead to home pages and websites.
  2. In the Blog Title part of the Link form, add the genre and the title (For instance: Novel: The Old Man and the Sea).

Do NOT do the following:

  1. Do not add spam links.
  2. Do not add homepage links to Websites/ Blogs.
  3. Do not add more than one link.
  4. Do not ask me to edit/ make changes to the list. (I edit typos without being prompted, don’t worry).

I hope to have a few things to read by the weekend!

What have you written recently? Would you add a link to one of your recent posts or publications? How have you been in October and November? Does your blogging suffer when life intervenes? Are you considering taking a blogging break any time soon? Have you made plans to travel for the year-end?

I keep working at short stories… fun! But I agree, blogging can be a distraction… a necessary evil?? 😉

I really appreciate your efforts to catch up on blogs. Plus I like this idea of linky too. Thank you for stopping by my blog 🙂

  • Heidi says:

Glad you’re back. I posted at the start before reading #2—I guess I was excited. I’ll get it right the next time.

I added my blog link because I think you may have missed one or both of my most recent posts. Take your pick or read them both if you have time. They may seem opposed to each other, but they actually sort of fit (in my mind, anyway) as a whole picture. One is “Please Don’t Ask Me to Read Your Book” and the other one is why we should review the books we *do* end up reading . . . “Honk If You Loved It! . . . And Even If You Didn’t.”

Thanks for the linky list! I”ll have to check out some of the ones I’m not familiar with.

  • You are going to be busy! I’ll be taking a few days off when my daughter visits–coming soon! Yay!

  • I see your name as having read my posts. It is always very kind of you to visit my humble page. 🙂

    Welcome back 🙂

I wish I could be a hermit for a short while. Unfortunately I’m married [Don’t get me wrong. I love my husband.]. Like you, I’m passionate about blogging. However, the distraction of it is keeping me from writing projects I dearly want to finish. Blogging has become an addiction. I really should take some time away from it like you did.

Blogging and blog friends are very precious to me, but every once in a while I do need a retreat into myself, or I’d never be able to write. I hope you’re able to make some time for yourself and your writing!

  • Jemima Pett says:

Well, you seem to have visited (or at least ‘liked’) all the things I was going to link up. Thank you – I’m honoured.

    • Damyanti Biswas says:

I do try and visit as many of the posts of a group of friends I’ve known for a while, and you’re on that list :). So yeah, when I’m not able to comment, I leave a Like.

  • Susan Scott says:

Hi Damyanti, good to see you here. I wonder often about taking a break from social media. It’s like an addiction 🙁 I added a link to my recent post …

    • Damyanti Biswas says:

Hi Susan, it IS an addiction, because those who run social media want you to spend all your time on it, so they can have your eyes on the advertisers that pay them.

  • And wow, someone went crazy adding links.

    • Damyanti Biswas says:

Yeah, I deleted them. If they spam again, they will be banned. No one likes spammers.

  • Either of my last two posts are good. Listed the latest one.
I’ll be mostly unplugged next week for Thanksgiving and looking forward to it.

    • Damyanti Biswas says:

Oh that’s wonderful. Happy Thanksgiving in advance. I guess the holiday season is upon us.

I think I may have got it wrong! I thought you wanted posts – I should have read the instructions in full! I posted about a book I’ve just published. I linked to the post.
