For the last 12 years, I’ve been associated with Project Why one way or another.

I’ve kept it quiet as a blogger, other than a series of posts I did a few years ago, but recently I have ramped up my voice about this little nonprofit: they do excellent work and are currentlystruggling for funds. (If you know of an individual or organization looking to donate to a good cause–guide them to Project WHY!)

Here are a few posts done last week on this blog by their founder: Anouradha Bakshi.

Each of these seven posts talks about a different aspect of the Project WHY story. They give a wonderful glimpse into the small good things they do despite all odds.

blogger led fundraiserOnce I started speaking about Project WHY, a band of excellent bloggers have helped amplify that voice, whether it is by helping with the Sewing Circle fundraiser, or the current fundraiser to help keep the Project WHY school in Okhla open. Valentineโ€™s Day Blogathon: Show the Love, Save a School

Hugely grateful to all the bloggers who have written about the Project Why #HelpMithuSaveSchool Fundraiser. The fundraiser is still ongoing, and we would love for more people to come together and give just a little to let these wonderful kids and teachers keep their school.

For now, we need another lakh (1500 USD) to reach the fundraiser target.

If you’re reading this, please please chip in a little–a little will go a long way in keeping a school open–a school started in a dustbin in 2004, which has helped thousands of students since. All details about the school, and the students and teachers involved, are in the fundraiser link.

Damyanti Biswas is the author of You Beneath Your Skin and numerous short stories that have been published in magazines and anthologies in the US, the UK, and Asia. She has been shortlisted for Best Small Fictions and Bath Novel Awards and is co-editor of the Forge Literary Magazine. Her literary crime thriller series, the Blue Mumbai, is represented by Lucienne Diver from The Knight Agency. Both The Blue Bar and The Blue Monsoon were published in 2023.

    Hi Damyanti – that’s great to read … and I’m so pleased that the School has been saved … well done on your reaching out … the world is wide and generous … and we’ve 10 days left to raise the rest – I sure hope some of that has come through since you let us know the timing.     I was impressed by the work that Project Why is doing and all that it has achieved. Anouradha’s FB Live was so very moving. I do hope the remaining Lakh comes through too.

    I have been reading about the excellent work that Project Why has been involved with. Some of the stories give me goosebumps. So wonderful to see the blogging community coming together for this beautiful cause.

    This is such a wonderful organization and you’re doing a fantastic job with the promotion of it, Damyanti! Although I didn’t participate in the linkup, I have been sharing and donating when possible. Here’s hoping the financial goal will be reached.

      Thanks for all your help, Debbie! I haven’t done much, and it certainly won’t be enough if we don’t hit the target. We still have about 1500 USD to raise.

          Hi Debbie, I come from a very modest, middle-class family, and do not know people who are wealthy enough to afford Project WHY. I do hope, though, that Project WHY can get the help it deserves–we just need a 100 people like you and me who would chip in just a little, and we will be home with this one. ๐Ÿ™‚

          That said, any wealthy philanthropists who are reading this are very, very welcome to come in and help us.

    Since I’m only blogging once a month, I’ve put some FB posts and Tweets out, and I’ll do more this week. I’m hoping this project finds the funds they need to continue.

      Thanks so much, Lee. I really hope this project can continue as well. So far, we have had a lot of support and managed to raise about 5000 USD, but we still need about 1500 USD to hit the target.
