Not qualified to dispense blogging advice, butDaily (w)rite is a 9-year old blog now, a fair number of turns of the hourglass: from time to time, I’ve asked my audience for their opinions and advice on blogging related topics.

The community has been generous in providing responses. I’m posting the links below for those new to my blog, or to blogging in general, who write to me asking for blogging tips or advice.

Like I said, I’m not good at this, so I’ll let my readers dole out the blogging advice on my behalf: scroll down the comments in each of the above posts to find out stuff I wish I knew when I started blogging.

The above posts aren’t by any means meant to be the last word on blogging, but I’m putting them together because there’s a lot of cumulative wisdom in the comments. I’ll keep updating the list as I ask more questions and find more answers. If you have a blogging question you’d like to ask of my audience, or need a spot of blogging advice or tips, post them in the comments, and I’ll put them up for you.

Please join Daily (w)rite on its Facebook Page if you’d like to be heard by this community. If you liked this post, you can have biweekly posts delivered to your inbox: click the SUBSCRIBE VIA EMAIL button in the sidebar.

Love this post. I am new to the blogging world and you answered many of my questions. Thanks for being thoughtful. This page is a great help. Following your lead, I have also made it a good practice to follow/comment/like any blogger than has visited me. Is this common blogging courtesy? Good luck and continue posting.

    • Damyanti

Usually bloggers follow/ like their visitors, but it all depends on whether you like the visitor’s blog enough to follow it. Every blogger needs to find their own niche, and strategy. This page is an accumulation of all the advice my audience has given me, and I’m glad you found it useful.

  9. Nabukazal

I would like to thank you for reading and liking my attempt at writing a short story, the first part at least, and was wondering if you had any advice/remarks. If not, that’s okay! Have a lovely day!

  15. memeethemuse

I would love to reblog this. So, let me know if that’s okay 🙂 Every blogger should know this stuff. So thanks for gathering it all in one spot, making it all the easier for us to learn! And, seeing as I’m here, thank you for stopping by my blog yesterday 🙂

  16. vitanova360

Thank you for your support towards my new blog, it has been huge learning curve – all live, which was obviously a bit a train wreck:) But on the plus side, I have learned so much from bloggers such as yourself via their posts or their direct suggestions to me and I am continuing to fine tune my daily records, thoughts, stories while sharing others’ posts.
What an adventure is has been so far with this vast online community. Thanks again:):)

  17. juliecround

Thanks for your comment. My blog gets very few readers because I don’t understand how to link but I must tune in to other bloggers to try to get more contacts. It seems people in the UK prefer twitter and facebook so most of my contacts are in the USA or Australia! I can’t afford to post books all over the world.

It’s inspiring and daunting to see your 6 or so years of hard work and dedication! As a self-proclaimed newbie, I’m learning a lot from veteran bloggers such as yourself. Truly only praise for the blog, and here’s to 6 more!

  20. Olive

Ooh! Thank you for posting this (and for checking out my site). I look forward to reading all these resources! They seem very helpful for a newbie like me! 🙂

  21. gail1975

  22. Gunaseelan

As a beginner , i loves your blog . I some times writes great content in my blog and no one liking my post , if they like a single content then i will be happy.

  23. trablog

Thank you for helping out the newbies! You are 6 year experienced and I am not even 6 days with this blog of mine! Thank you for the advices. I have a small question too. Is it possible to open a link in new window or tab when you click them?
Anyway I am heading to check out the AZ challenge blog. Thank you .

  24. strategyaudit

6 years is good going, and it is hard work, I know, having gone for about the same time, 1500 odd posts. however, sometimes they just “pop” out, other times a post is the result a long and troubled gestation, with many adjustments along the way.

  25. TreeFrog

Thanks for visiting my blog. I’m re-entering the world of words after taking a too long hiatus. I’m still in the process of putting the finishing touches on my site so please visit again soon. I’ve already taken note of your guidelines for first time bloggers. Your site is impressive and inspiring. Again, thank you. 🙂

    • Damyanti

There’sa lot of info available on Google on both of these. Bloghops and blogfests are more or less the same thing– one or more bloggers host a list– and other bloggers enter it. On a given day/ week/ month– they all post on the same topic and visit each other. Google and visit loads of blogs to locate blogfests.

  26. Tyrean Martinson

Cumulative advice is wonderful! I think the best way is to be true to yourself and your interests, change things up if you need to, encourage others (visit, comment, blog hop), and enjoy the moment. Lately, it seems that super short posts work best . . . but that may just be a trend.

  27. Nax Vee

I just started my blog a week ago, so I don’t really feel qualified to be giving advice, but I can share what I’ve learned during my first week of blogging.

    1) I found that using tags was a great way to make your posts easier to find for other bloggers who may be writing about the same content as you.
    2) My friend told me to write about one thing, and one thing only. She runs a food blog. Unfortunately, my mind doesn’t function that way, so I just write about whatever is on my mind that day. I say just be genuine with your writing, and don’t feel the need to subscribe to a certain style.
    3) Sharing your content on other social media sites is also a great way for getting people to come check out your blog. I always update my Twitter & Facebook when I write a new post, and I’ve gotten some great followers from doing so.
    4) My last piece of advice that I learned was don’t be so hard on yourself. I’m not the greatest writer, but I write because I love to write. I always remind myself that, and that with time I’ll become a better writer. Practice makes perfect as they say! (:

    Great post by the way!

  28. Criss Guy

As someone just getting started sharing and promoting writing with people on wordpress and social media, I appreciate the work that you and others are doing to foster a web community of sorts around this crazy thing called writing. I look forward to exploring more of your site!

  29. masgautsen

Thank you for a great post on a great blog 🙂 Reading your blog and visiting some of the other blogs you’ve mentioned here has really enriched my day.

  30. hjhall2014

I started blogging as a personal challenge a number of weeks ago. I never anticipated how much time it would take, and how difficult it would be to keep posts short (I have failed in that). I also had no idea of the community aspect of blogging and actually found it quite frightening when strangers started to visit my blog! But, I’m on a journey of taking risks, discovering new things and exploring new talents, So thank you for all of this sound and solid advice, and for the encouragement of visiting me at Looking Beyond…. I shall try and create some time now to read as well as write.

  31. Bernadette

Loving your blog! As a beginner in this blogging sphere, I’m really enjoying all the tips and ideas you’ve shared here. I’ve been pretty poor in sharing the comment love in the past, but I will definitely start sharing more of the comment love from now on. Looking forward to doing the A-Z challenge in the future.

  32. gillswriting

Hey there, no idea how you found my humble blog but you are so very welcome on my travels. This is a really interesting blog and some great tips. I shall enjoy following you.

  33. Ali Isaac

I loved this post! And I LOVE my blog (although you prob wouldnt as its dark lol!). I get a lot out of researching and writing for my posts, but best of all are the comments I recieve, and yes I do respond to every one, but then I dont have as many followers as you. I have made some great blogfriends… I enjoy visiting their blogs daily and definitely believe in spreading the comment love araound! We are lucky to live in the digital age and have this facility available to us! I started my blog as a support for my books. Now it has grown to have a life of its own.

  34. sangita

  35. nbaez92

I really appreciated the information I found here. I’m not so new to writing but you could call me a blogging newbie. Coming up with a steady yet achievable schedule is something I’ve been thinking about so getting someone else’s opinion on the matter was very helpful!

  36. keroseman

Thank you for following me. Thank you for the advice you’ve given in and prompted through this blog entry.

  37. bullk

I too am very new to blogging. Your links look like they would be very helpful but I couldn’t open either. This is a new adventure for me and I’m looking forward to it.

    • Damyanti

I’ve deleted and re-added all the links. This should help– you should be able to open them now. Wishing you all the best on your blogging journey.

  38. perpetualadmin

Hi, there’s an error that says “You are not allowed to edit this item” when I click on the links.

…Well, of course I can’t edit these items. They aren’t mine. Silly computer. 😛

  39. ashes0249

I tried to visit some of the links above, but it would not let me for some reason. You have a great blog. I could find it useful if I could read some it since I’m a beginner blogger. Thanks for visiting my page, it means a lot to me! If you could give one blogging tip, what would it be?

  40. colbylawton

May I ask what the best way to find blogs I might like is? This is a great post, it shines a light into the world of blogging for me, a total newbie. Thanks for following me!

    • Damyanti

I think visiting more blogs, visiting blog tags in the area of your interest might help in locating blogs that would interest you. Perhaps I’ll post your question to my audience, and they’ll give you more varied and insightful answers than I can.

    • Damyanti

Visit more blogs and leave genuine, heartfelt comments. Join blog fests and blog hops. Put yourself out there on social media. Above all, have patience :).
