Read “Charms of the Easy Life” by Kaye Gibbons last week. Finished it in a day.
I had picked it up at random at a sale, for about 50 US cents, I think, as light reading in between “more serious” stuff. I’m glad I did.
Though parts of the books seemed rushed, Gibbons kept me hooked throughout, impressed me with the sheer beauty of her writing and her amazing powers of characterization: Sophia, Maragaret, and the irrepressible Charlie Kate are all so deftly captured.
Makes me wonder how many tons and tons of good books are out there waiting for me to read them.
