The A to Z April Blogging Challenge 2013 is entering its 4th week! I’m co-hosting it on Amlokiblogs, so drop me a comment there if you have something to say about the challenge itself. On this blog, I’ve been featuring mostly indie-published book excerpts for all of April. I love reading, and supporting author-friends, and this is a good way to do both.
Today, for S, I give you a sweet historical romance: Sky Tinted Water by Keta Diablo, where familial bonds, malevolent schemes, and passion collide.
Elevator Pitch: Set in Minnesota during the Civil War and the Sioux uprising, this is the story of Rory Hudson, the exquisite Irish lass with an unbreakable spirit and the enigmatic Dawson Finch, a man bound by honor, duty and loyalty. When Dawson enlists in the army to bring peace to a nation divided, Rory’s world plummets into a tailspin.
Excerpt: Looking over her shoulder, Rory blew a sigh of relief. Minx had paused to nibble on a sprig of grass bursting through the forest floor. The foal would act skittish if danger lurked. She relaxed in the saddle and journeyed on . . . until Charmer’s ears flattened against her head. Had she heard a foreign noise or were her muscles preparing for an attack from pesky flies?
I’m not a romance fan, but pick the occasional one when I need a light read. I love historical novels, though, so I might give this a try. Are you a fan of historical romance? Have you read any books by Keta Diablo?
Like the others, I love the cover. It sounds like it could be a pretty good read as well.

I love the cover as well. Who did the cover?
What a beautiful cover! I love the cabin in the background.
Thank you so much for hosting Sky Tinted Water. Much appreciated. This isn’t a formulaic romance novel. It has mystery and suspense and a SEQUEL! It’s set in an intriguing era of Minnesota history. Two major incidents merged to create a storm – The Civil War and the Dakota Uprising. A fiery, brutal time for its residents. Several mentioned the beautiful cover. The credit goes to Fantasia Frog Designs who makes most of my covers. If you’d like to show your appreciation for their work, Sky Tinted Water art has been selected for a contest. If you’re inclined to vote for her work, please go here: http://indtale.com/cover-contest. This is a great site for authors with a newsletter chocked full of info and reviews. The magazine is stunning and I don’t think you’ll regret registering and following this site. Again, thank you for hosting my recent release and thank you all so much for dropping by to comment. btw, while this is billed as a romance, explicit sex does not exist between the pages. It’s about the “love” between Rory and Dawson in this turbulent time.
No, I haven’t read her books. Historical romance has not been on my to read list till now.
Always for romance.
Rory is an unusual name for a girl.
I have always loved historic fiction, may be i will like this. Thank you for reco
The cover caught my eye.
I went through a romance phase in college, but I haven’t read many since then. That’s a very cool cover.
Happy A to Z-ing,
I don’t read a lot of historical romances, but I occasionally delve in and enjoy.
I stay away from book romances but I like the review
I’m not a big fan of romance, but I like the historical era this story is set in.
An A to Z Co-Host
Tossing It Out
Not sure I’d pick that one for an elevator pitch – there’s something cliched about the writing. But I do like historical romance, too – it just has to be original, I guess.
Keta Diablo is not on my radar – well, not until your review. I love historicals and romance novels that aren’t formulaic – mystery/suspense/historical, etc. This one sounds intriguing and you may won her some fans.
Looks like an interesting book. I don’t normally read books of that genre but I might just give this one a go
